Yusaku Kitamura is one of the main characters from the Toradora! anime and light novels. He is a male student in Ryuuji's class, and is his best friend. He is the vice-president of the student council, the class representative, and captain of the boy's softball club at school.

Good Qualities

1. He is one of few people who's good friends with Ryuuji and doesn't judge him by his appearance.
2. He is also childhood friends with Ami. Yusaku is already aware of Ami's true nature since they grew up together.
3. He is also good friends with Taiga, Minori and Sumire.
4. He possesses a very jolly and energetic personality, tending to get really fired up about whatever he's doing and make larger-than-life statements.
5. He is by far the most popular boy in the classroom and one of the most popular guys in the school at large, with the ladies going crazy for him, and even Maya having a secret crush on him. He tends to pay them no mind because he's already in love and has higher expectations with Sumire.
6. He had a crush on Taiga one year prior to the series, but she turned him down. He is way past her by the time she starts paying attention to him. He lets her know that he's there for her as a friend, but nothing more and even helps her realize her feelings for Ryuuji.
7. His quote: "Don’t worry. You won’t be completely alone. You’ve got me." shows that he is always there for his friends when they need him.
8. He thanks Taiga for defending his honor by picking a fight with Sumire for rejecting him, but also tells her never to do something like that again.
9. He goes along with Ryuuji's lies by taking credit as being the one who saved Taiga to cover her confession, thought this doesn't last long, as Minori calls him out on that and Yusaku and Ami block the doors to get Taiga to realize her true feelings.
10. His dub voice actor, Johnny Yong Bosch, did a good job voicing him.

Bad Qualities

1. He became unlikable in Episodes 15 and 16, where he goes insane, essentially abandoned his responsibilities, refused to say a word to his friends about what he was going through, and dyed his hair blonde. He also confessed his feelings to Sumire on public stage, where she rejects him, but she had good reasons why she did it.
   • After her fight with Taiga and admitting she didn't want Yusaku to give up his dreams, he tells her he still loves her, goes back to normal, dyes his hair green again and is back to being a model student.
2. After his arc was completed, he mostly stays in the background and doesn't do much in the story afterwards, apart from helping Ryuuji and Taiga realize their mutual feelings for each other.
3. He tends to be the least focus out of the other main characters.

• Both Kitamura and Sumire have the same English voice actors as Nero and Trish from the Devil May Cry series.
