    WALL ·E
After 700 years of doing what he was built for, he'll discover what he was meant for.
    Gender: Male
Type: Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth Class
    Age: 700 in robot years
    Species: Robot
    Portrayed by: Ben Burtt
    Status: Alive
    Media of origin: WALL ·E

WALL ·E is the titular main protagonist of the Disney/Pixar film of the same name. He is a waste collector drone created by the Buy n Large corporation initially programmed to haul the garbage plaguing Earth in the distant future. His loneliness and never-ending work managed to give him a mind of his own and wished for something else in his life to come. One day, his life turns upside-down when he meets another robot that is not his kind.

    Why He's WALL.E

    1. Even though he's mostly a silent protagonist, this fella did develop a personality from a "glitch". As silly as it sounds, this actually fits WALL·E pretty well.
    2. He has a curious persona who loves to collect anything he finds interesting. Some may see his collection as a piece of junk. To him, however, he finds it pleasant to look at. This could serve as a metaphor to how some real-life people may not see certain interests in their cup of tea but to some an enjoyable moment. His curious mindset even got him to wonder whether there is more to life than his directive.
    3. He has a pretty deep backstory as he was the only living WALL ·E to actually survive. He even became lonely yet only having a cockroach as a pet.
    4. He has a crush on EVE, even to the point where WALL ·E became overprotective of EVE to keep her safe. Even if EVE shuts down, WALL ·E does his best to protect her as well.
      • Also the relationship between the two get even more interesting and heartfelt despite the two characters not being able to legit talk. Even the ending shows how cute it is. This is a sign of him being an instrument in EVE's development.
    5. His friendliness gave a domino effect to other robots and the humans in the BnL ship. He breaks John and Mary out of technology leading them to enjoy the world and each other's company for the first time in their lives on the ship. He got Captain B. McCrea into being interested in history and return to Earth.
    6. His design is so cute and wholesome for a little robot.
    7. He had some funny moments like when he leaves a trail of dirt only to annoy M-O or him showing EVE the Hello, Dolly musical while dancing to it. And let's not forget the post-credit scene where WALL ·E fixes Luxo's light bulb.
    8. He keeps trying to clean up the Earth's surface after the humans left Earth. So he's a dedicated worker.
    9. He attempted to sacrifice himself when he was being crushed by a holo-detector just to save the human race and get back to Earth.

    Bad Qualities

    1. He can be a bit naive. For example, he thought that EVE was being hurt in the Repair Ward; however, in reality, diagnostics were being run on her.
    2. He can get distracted from his job.

    Trivia

    • Pixar's second titular character behind Nemo from Finding Nemo and also, the first titular character to be a protagonist.
    • In the script for the film, his name is spelled "Wally" (slang for a foolish or naïve person). It is also pronounced this way when referenced in the directors' commentaries.
    • His character is inspired by silent live-action stars like Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Mr. Bean, and Mr. Noodle from Sesame Street.
      • He also shares a bit of resemblance to Lenny from Toy Story due to his eyes. R.O.B. the NES Robot (aka Robotic Operating Buddy) also shares similarities to WALL ·E.
      • Shares many traits (including appearance) with another personality-prone movie robot, Johnny-5, from the 1986 sci-fi comedy movie Short Circuit.
      • His behavior is based on the Pixar mascot Luxo Jr.
    • The song that is played when his power is regenerated is the same sound that is heard when an Apple computer is turned on (specifically an iMac G3) or when Video Treasures Presents (1997) is played. Similarly, the icon of the Sun on his Solar Charge Level readout is the same as the Brightness icon on a Macintosh. These are likely references to former Apple CEO Steve Jobs' involvement in the formation of Pixar Animation Studios.
    • The sounds of his treads were created by a hand-cranked electric generator when he moves around and an automobile self-starter for when he goes fast.
    • He was painted yellow to resemble a Caterpillar Inc. tractor. As a result, the garbage-strewn Earth had to have most of its color drained away so as to make him stand out.
    • Makes a cameo in a short film Your Friend the Rat.
    • Some pictures floating around the internet have shown the character making cameo appearances in every Pixar movie since Toy Story. However, all of these pictures are fake.
