    Pyra
    Mythra
"This is the power of the Aegis!"
    Gender: Female
    Type: Supportive Alter-Ego (Pyra)
    Legendary Alter-Ego (Mythra)
    Age: Unknown
    Species: Humanoid
    Portrayed by: Skye Bennett (English)
    Shino Shimoji (Japanese)
    Status: Alive
    Media of origin: Xenoblade Chronicles

Pyra and Mythra are the female protagonists in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. There are the Aegis, a Legendary Blade who can grant tremendous fire-elemental and tremendous power to their Driver, Rex. Both of them are voiced by Skye Bennett in English version and Shino Shimoji in Japanese version.

    Why They Rock

    Overall

    1. Shino Shimoji voiced them perfectly in Japanese version and their English voices sound decently for Skye Bennett.
    2. Both have very attractive designs, although it was censored in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
    3. While they mostly act as backup to their drivers, they are competent sword fighters on their own, and leagues more powerful than any of their allied blades.
    4. Both weapons are a unique type called the "Aegis Sword", and its a huge sword that emits light/fire to extend further. It also deals a lot more damage than common weapon types (The only exception being a Greataxe wielded by Zenobia), as expected from a Person of Mass Destruction. Mythra's is a more faithful example, with her sword being imbued with light energy, whereas Pyra's is more of a Flaming Sword.
    5. They have great relationships with their friends, notably Rex, who sets off Rex's quest.
    6. Both manage to portray a split personality thoughtfully and respectfully. The two personalities have this dynamic with Rex's Archie: Pyra is the sweet but headstrong betty, while Mythra is the prickly but well-meaning veronica.
    7. They made it into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a playable fighter, and for the first time ever, Pyra is finally playable character.

    Pyra

    1. She was so good at cooking at available kitchens, which gives players to have more abilities.
    2. She plays a significant role in the backstory, and meeting her provides Rex incentive to find Elysium.
    3. She has power over flame. Not only does she use it in battle, but one of her idle animations shows her playing with it. Even without the sword she can conjure a huge fire ball if she has to. It's an early plot point that Pyra is not technically a fire Blade, so large amounts of water (which disrupt the fire ether in the air) have no effect on her powers.

    Mythra

    1. She is very good at analyzing the structural integrity in combat outside of buildings and the strength of her opponents, so she can take them out in one shot without bringing the house down. This is reflected in gameplay, as she has access to the "Focus" field skill and her voice quip is pondering the structural weaknesses of what she's looking at.
    2. Much like Pyra, she gained the major character development;
      • She becomes a lot nicer at the end of the DLC due to Character Development and starts to generally care about everyone else but ends up blowing most of them to hell after Malos attacks Auresco.
      • During the main game, Mythra has clearly good/caring intentions throughout and becomes much kinder towards Rex and the others after he bonds with her further, but is just as dangerous as ever - only now with much greater control over her powers.

    The Only Bad Quality

    Mythra

    1. She can get Butt-Monkey, since Mythra's attitude can get annoying at times.

    Trivia

    Overall

    • Pyra and her alternate forms, Mythra and Pneuma, are the only Blades guaranteed to be available at any point during a New Game Plus playthrough regardless of the player's previous progress, even before Rex awakens her or when captured during the story.
    • As the Aegis, Pyra, Mythra, and Pneuma are the only Blades to have a green Core Crystal and ether lines during combat. All other Blades have blue with the exception of Malos, who is the only Blade with a purple Core Crystal.
    • Pyra and Mythra are the second two-in-one DLC fighters, following Banjo & Kazooie.
    • Pyra and Mythra are the third and fourth fighters to have debuted on the Nintendo Switch. The first was Byleth (who properly debuted in Fire Emblem: Three Houses after he technically debuted in Fire Emblem Heroes) and the second was Min Min.
    • Pyra and Mythra were the first to get merchandise, and despite the popular assumption that Rex, being the protagonist, would end up as the most prominent face of the game and its possible representative in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, they ended up being the playable representative in Ultimate instead of Rex - which is notable since it's the first time Pyra has been directly playable. This, however, is downplayed since it was later revealed that Rex was initially planned to be playable, but Smash's developers found that implementing both him and the Aegis at once would prove impossible due to hardware limitations, so their popularity wasn't the only reason why they were chosen over their Driver, as Sakurai tried different permutations of Rex and Pyra/Mythra before settling on the Aegis herself as a transforming character.

    Pyra

    • Pyra shares her Japanese name, Homura, with the Skell weapon HOMURA in Xenoblade Chronicles X.
    • The way Mythra created Pyra as a separate personality to cope with her emotional troubling is similar to how the main protagonist of Xenogears, Fei, created Id.
    • Pyra's fighter design has been censored in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate by giving her pantyhose underneath her shorts. This was likely done to avoid raising the game's age rating, as Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has a higher age rating than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in most regions. Unlike Mythra, neither of her spirits use this redesign for their artworks.
      • According to Sakurai, he and the development team went through a lot of trial and error before settling on Pyra's design for Smash Bros.

    Mythra

    • Mythra's appearance is altered compared to her default appearance in Xenoblade Chronicles 2—she wears black spandex over her legs and back, and the normally open gap in the blouse of her dress is closed up. This design originally came from her spirit in the base game, which was changed due to age ratings—it was later added to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as the "Massive Melee Mythra" costume, which means her design in Ultimate is based off a costume that was created directly from her appearance in Ultimate.
