Trevor Philips is one of three protagonists in Grand Theft Auto V; along with Franklin Clinton and Michael De Santa.
Why He Rocks
- He's a fan favorite, typically being acclaimed by many fans of the GTA series.
- His crazy psychotic nature is expressed very clearly and well. You can clearly tell that he can be a big threat.
- He has a tragic backstory.
- Not only that, but he's also very humorous, having some funny moments here and there.
- While he is psychopathic and crazy, he does show that he means well to his friends and cares about them. This is especially prevalent if the player chooses to kill Michael in the end, in which he openly expresses disgust in the choice of killing him and also if you choose to kill Trevor, he will act shock to his betrayal and say how he's been straight and true to him, and will not fight back when he gets trapped and he tells Franklin to just kill him.
- On the subject of that, the relationships between him, Michael and Franklin are very well-expressed and genuine.
- Steven Ogg does a fantastic job at voicing him. In fact, Trevor Philips is actually the inspiration for some of Ogg's future portrayals, such as Sobchak in Better Call Saul and Simon in The Walking Dead.
- Trevor has plenty of quotes that make him a strong and badass character:
- "Next time don't get in my f**king face! I just saw a f**king ghost and now I've got to hear your crap?!"
- "Hey, hey, cowboy, you mind that I f**ked your old lady?"
- "I'll swing by and sign the contracts, alright? Just ignore the bodies."
- "Shut up before I molest you, alright!"
- "You're a genius, you moron."
- "Ron! Ron! I'm back...And bring me my coffee or I'm gonna cut your arm off!"
- "Shut the f**k up! Thank you."
- “You people are not very f**king nice!”
- "Oh, I got abandonment issues. I see a shrink once a week."
- "Franklin! My... n-word!"
- He has one of the most memorable moments in the game, where he goes to Los Santos and overlooks the city, where he tells Michael that he is coming for him.
- The scene where Trevor falls over the fence is one of the funniest moments in the game. It is also said to be improvised, Steven Ogg clarified that this was just a legend.
- While optional, his death in "Something Sensible" is a bit saddening since he gets betrayed by the guy he thought was his friend, which was Franklin, and the fact that we would never see Trevor in the main game ever again.
Bad Qualities
- He killed Johnny Klebitz, the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and the Damned, traumatizing Ashley.
- He's a huge psychopath. It's not without saying he can take his actions too far sometimes, like kidnapping Martin's wife.
- When Trevor learns the truth about Brad's death and Michael working with the FIB, he leaves him to die and even cut the wires in his car, which allows the Triad members to capture Michael. He also refuses to help save him when asked by Franklin.
- While certainly a fan-favorite (see WHR #1), depending on your perspective, he might undermine the spotlight from the other two protagonists (Michael and Franklin).
Trivia
- Trevor Philips won Cheat Code Central's 7th Annual Cody Awards for "Best Male Character".
