Timon and Pumbaa are major characters in Disney's The Lion King franchise.

    Why They're Hakuna Matata!

    1. They are one of Disney’s most unforgettable comedy duos.
    2. They are both great father figures for Simba.
    3. They rescued Simba from nearly dying in the desert and revived him in their jungle home.
    4. They have been shown to have an great, strong, and healthy friendship with each other.
    5. Their song "Hakuna Matata" is very unforgettable and is one of the film’s highest praised songs.
    6. Nathan Lane (Timon) and Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa) both do an amazing job voicing them.
      • Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner do surprisingly good jobs voicing them in the 2019 film.
    7. They always have each other's backs, along with Simba’s.
    8. They get a lot of good laughs out of the audience, like when they try to distract the hyenas via hula dancing.
    9. Pumbaa, while a simpleton by name, serves as a perfect straight-man to Timon's wise-guy.
      • Speaking of which, Pumbaa is a lovable simpleton to Timon's lovable wisecracker.
    10. Whenever Timon does something wrong, Pumbaa gets angry at him, giving Timon his comeuppance, mainly in their own spin-off
    11. They both joined Simba in his quest to take back the throne and participated in the battle of Pride Rock, from which Simba and his allies emerged victorious.
    12. They've gained several spin-offs. Additionally, most of the duo's fans wrote several letters about their very own feature film, which was released in 2004.
    13. They're shown to work off each other very well.
    14. They are by far two of the most memorable and likable characters in The Lion King franchise.
    15. They still have their charm in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, The Lion Guard, and the 2019 remake.
      • In fact, Timon and Pumbaa can be seen as the best characters in the 2019 remake, one of the reasons being duo are the most expressive out of the barely-expressive cast.
    16. While Timon can be a bit of a jerk in the House of Mouse he was much funnier here such as Timon trying to eat Jiminy Cricket which is quite funny to watch.

    Mook Qualities

    1. Despite being great comic relief characters, some of their gross-out jokes can be unnecessary at times, such as Pumbaa's fart jokes and Timon's habit of eating bugs.
    2. Timon can be selfish at times, mainly in their spinoff series. Speaking of which, he got a pretty bad case of flanderization and even in House of Mouse, but it thankfully often comes off as amusing to some.
    3. Stunt casting: While Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen do good jobs voicing them in the 2019 remake, it seems like they were only cast to attract people to watch the film.

    Trivia

    • Timon and Pumbaa were not in the original script of the 1994 animated movie, but Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella were so funny when they auditioned for the hyenas, so Disney made characters just for them.
