The Angry Video Game Nerd (also simply referred to as "the Nerd") is the titular main protagonist of the web series of the same name, portrayed by James Rolfe. He is a disgruntled video game fanatic who provides commentary on games he deems "shitty", and also reviews consoles of equally poor quality.

Why He's Gonna Take You Back To The Past

1. He has influenced several YouTube reviewers such as Nostalgia Critic, Angry Joe, Joueur du Grenier (English: "Attic Gamer"), ColoniaContraAtaca (Portuguese for "Colony Strikes Back"), Irate Gamer, and the list goes on.
2. He is very entertaining and badass.
   • While his suffering and anger caused by the horrible games are for the audience's amusement, he always fights back.
3. He curses in the most creative way possible.
4. The theme song of his show is awesome and fits him perfectly.
5. He gives good reasons for the horrendous quality of the games he critiques.
6. He has several iconic catchphrases, including (but not limited to) "What were they thinking?!", "ASS!", "Fuck this game, watch it go!", "I'd rather (insert over-the-top painful and humiliating action here) than play this game!", etc.
7. The many times he completely loses his temper are hilarious.
   • There were countless times that The Nerd's anger-prone nature led him to do goofy, ridiculous stuff for the sake of comedy.
8. Some of his critiques and observant opinions can be done hilariously. For example, "Who the fuck builds their personality on Shrek?" from the episode Shrek: Fairy Tale Freakdown. A witty remark about a weird Shrek cult no-less.
9. He has a great super mode used to fight both The Devil and R.O.B the Robot.
10. He has a well-known rogues gallery consisting of pop culture characters like Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, the Joker, Bugs Bunny, etc.
11. He is the owner of an adorable but badass black cat which he merely calls "Death Kitty". Said cat is James Rolfe's deceased cat, Boo.
12. He has a legendary disdain for the infamous company, LJN.
13. He destroys games (and sometimes consoles) in some pretty hilarious and/or awesome ways, like stomping on them, setting them on fire, or just merely defecating on them.
14. Even though he looks just like your average nerd, he has proven to be quite powerful, especially in his battles with his aforementioned rogues' gallery.

Destroyed Video Game Qualities

1. Sometimes, he can be a bit too cruel, like pummeling Bugs Bunny the very moment he first meets him in person as well as beating up Aladdin after giving him Aladdin Double Decker games, because the latter took an upper decker in his toilet.
2. Despite being an absolute badass at heart, he is constantly tortured by horrible video games. He has also been harassed by Bugs Bunny, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Pepsiman, etc.
3. While this is mostly uncommon, he sometimes overuses profanity and toilet humor to the point where it gets old and stale pretty quickly.
