Steven Universe (Born August 14, 1998) is the titular main protagonist of the show of the same name. He is the son of Greg Universe and Rose Quartz, and the first and only member of human descent and hybrid nature of the Crystal Gems.

Why He Will Fight To Be Everything

    1. He is optimistic, friendly, outgoing, soft-hearted, and carefree with a happy-go-lucky attitude that is appreciated by many, including his hometown.
    2. Despite his under-developed magical power and lack of experience, he has proven himself to have much heroic potential through his beaming resourcefulness, optimism, and confidence.
    3. He is musically inclined, a trait inherited from his father, with a propensity for breaking out into song and occasionally playing on his ukulele. He performs numerous songs within the show such as "We Are The Crystal Gems", "Both of You", and "Lapis Lazuli".
    4. Like his mother, he is compassionate, charismatic, and cares deeply for his friends, family, and anyone who has a heart.
    5. Massive character development: He starts off from a hammy, super excitable kid to a anxious preteen who is currently coping with the idea of the reality of his world, what to believe, and what is actually going on in the background.
    6. He is a near-perfect pacifist, as he would rather reason with his enemy before resorting to fighting and does so with complete remorse and personal understanding of one's own problems.
    7. His genuine kindness, sincerity, and capacity for empathy let him inspire friendship, trust, and love from most of the people he meets which enables him to mend others' inner turmoil and reach others who are otherwise closed off, most noticeably in the cases of Peridot and Lapis Lazuli.
    8. He is friendly toward almost everyone he meets (even to his detriment), rarely holds grudges, and is very non-discriminatory, never treating anyone with prejudice, even his enemies.
    9. Depending on your view on how Steven was portrayed in Future, he grew from a hammy little kid to a responsible young adult fixing the problems his mother left behind, while feeling left out by his friends and not knowing what to do with himself.
    10. He is one of the best examples of "The Friendly Loved Boy" type.

    Bad Qualities

    1. He can be very immature at times, mostly due to his childlike demeanor and innocence.
      • He was rather mediocre in the first few episodes of the first season, which makes his character growth all the more satisfying.
      • Even when his life is in near danger, he sometimes refuses to fight even if negotiating won't work.
    2. He is a little too forgiving towards the Diamond Authority, a trio of tyrants that caused him, his family, and much of his race so many problems.
      • His mother is also quite unforgivable.
    3. He is rather naive and socially oblivious, due to his isolated upbringing by the Gems.
    4. His voice in season 1A can be pretty annoying for some viewers
    5. He is shown in a slightly negative light in Steven Universe: The Movie; specifically, he shows a bit of a selfish side to himself as he becomes so focused on reclaiming his "happily ever after" that he ignores the regenerated Spinel during most of the film as he tries to get the Crystal Gems’ memories back, showing disregard for her once she deactivates her injector, which consequently sets her off again. But this is understandable since he was also focused on getting his friends' lost memories back which Spinel was, at the time, unknowingly responsible for.
    6. While Steven is still likable in Future, depending on your view, he was also flanderized therein. The way he was portrayed was one of the reasons why Future was criticized for his flawed writing. Despite helping everyone with their problems, but struggling to solve his own while feeling like the gems and everyone around him are drifting away from him, he acted like a depressed jerk to anyone that wanted to help him to where he had done things that are considered to be much worse than what his mother Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz did, such as causing a car accident that almost injured (or even killed) Greg, shattered Jasper and tried doing the same to White Diamond by slamming her head onto a pillar, or being disrespectful to abuse victims such as Greg (judging him for leaving an abusive and controlling household that made him unhappy in "Mr. Universe") and Volleyball (yelling at her to the point where she was afraid of Steven, almost the exact way Pink Diamond was being to Volleyball in "Volleyball").
