Sosuke is the main protagonist of the 2008 Studio Ghibli film Ponyo. He is a 5-year-old boy who saved Ponyo and quickly grew to love her.
Why He Rocks
- He was introduced in the film saving Ponyo from a glass jar. He got her out of the jar by smashing it with a rock, but also cut his finger.
- He made a promise to protect Ponyo as much as he can, even at school.
- Just like Ponyo, Sosuke is rather cute in appearance, much like fellow Ghibli characters Setsuko, Mei, and Markl.
- Despite being only 5-years old, Sosuke is a smart boy, and he also once claimed to be "busy", which is a humorous side of him.
- The bond he shares with Ponyo is straight up adorable.
- He is very caring toward Ponyo, such as when Fujimoto took her away from him early on in the film, Sosuke was so upset that all he could do is cry his eyes out.
- When Lisa became really angry about her husband breaking his promise to come home, Sosuke consoled her, which is sweet. He also loves his mom, since he and Ponyo went on a big journey to find her.
- The film ended with Sosuke telling Granmamare that he truly loves Ponyo, and this love is what allows Granmamre to return everything to normal. He also promised Fujimoto to take good care of his daughter, earning his trust.
The Only Bad Quality
- When Ponyo sprayed Kumiko and Toki in the face with dirty water, instead of him apologizing, Sosuke simply runs away from them to hide.
