Sigurd is the main character of the first generation of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. He is the son of Lord Byron who was one of the Twelve Crusaders. Sigurd attended the Royal Academy of Belhalla prior to the events of the game he comes from alongside Quan and Eldigan. In the prologue, he receives news that the majority of Grannvale's army, including a huge portion of Chalphy's army, is en route to invade the Kingdom of Isaach, the north-easternmost country in Jugdral. So he sets off during his story.

    Why He Rocks

    1. As a knight, Sigurd is very noble and compassionate towards his country, subordinates, and friends. Even going to the point that he would risk his own life for them without a second thought for his safety regardless of the conditions and can even fight alone for a necessary reason.
    2. He has strength that makes his personality fearless to even going forward to any tragedy he has suffered in the name of justice. This makes him inspire anyone close to him to do the same with his sheer noble spirit.
    3. Despite how rash he can be, she does care for the innocent people of any nation like children for example. He didn't want to kill Shannan.
    4. Because of his persona, he is praised by the majority of his subjects and the people of Jugdral. After his death, he was later revealed to be a legendary hero. Yes, he did unintentionally got much of the continent, but the Grannvale Empire became corrupted due to Julius.
    5. His appearance in Heroes makes him seem to acknowledge his own flaws and the consequences from his beliefs because he was pretty much responsible for most of the events of his game only he unknowingly invaded Verdane just so he can rescue Edian
    6. He wished to teach his own son to learn how to be a great king and not make the same mistakes he did. It's justified as he feared that his one son (Seliph) would do that one day. His Fated Holy Knight alt in Heroes stated "Seliph has grown into a remarkable young man. He has exceeded my expectations."
    7. Compared to many of the protagonists in the series he comes from, he begins as a Pre-Promoted mounted unit. He can also wield the character-exclusive weapon called the Tyrfing which is considered a mage killer.
    8. The love between Sigurd and Deirdre is just too pure and also touching during the story. Especially when he realized that Arvis was behind Deirdre's sudden disappearance. He even stated, "I love Deirdre—so much so that even were my love for her a crime, I would continue to love her without regret."
    9. Sigurd's death is moving. Arvis killed Sigurd with a Valflame tome and it ended his own life. Thankfully, Seliph avenged his life.

    Bad Qualities

    1. In the non-cannon Oosawa Mituski manga, Sigurd is even more hotheaded and emotional to even go as far as committing a grave mistake.
    2. His major flaw is that he's reckless, short-sighted, and naive. He could leap into battle without thinking it over and would become overly trusting to those who manipulate his actions.
    3. He was similarly messy and lazy at his life in his home in Chalphy much like his father.
    4. Compared to Seliph and Leif, Sigurd doesn't really learn from his mistakes due to his short slightness and warrior ideals as it's the reason why it's one of the main factors of his death.

    Trivia

    • He is named after Sigurd, also known as Siegfried from Norse mythology.
      • Sigurd is also the name of the hero in the Norse Völsunga saga. The hero Sigurd was told by his foster father Regin to go and recover some gold guarded by the dragon Fafnir. After he killed the dragon, he drank some of its blood and gained the ability to speak with birds. This can be compared with how the crusaders made blood rites with the dragons at the Miracle of Darna.
    • According to unofficial manga-based sources, Sigurd was born in the Grannvale calendar year 734, stands at 178 centimeters (about 5'10") in stature, and weighs 70.2 kilograms (154.7 lbs).
    • An older issue of Nintendo Power referred to Sigurd as "Zigludo".
