    Scorpion
    "GET OVER HERE!"
    Gender: Male
    Type: Iconic badass
    Memorable video game character
    Age: Unknown
    Species: Human (Hanzo Hasashi)
    Hellspawn (as Scorpion)
    Status: Alive
    Media of origin: Mortal Kombat

Hanzo Hasashi, also known as Scorpion (全蠍人, "Full Scorpion Man"), is a resurrected ninja, and the main protagonist of the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. He is one of the very few original characters debuting in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game. He holds the distinction, along with Raiden and Sub-Zero (in one form or another), of appearing in every generation of Mortal Kombat games as a playable character.

    Why He Gets Over Here

    1. He, alongside Ryu, Akira Yuki and Jin Kazama, altogether started the trend of fighting games, in his case, the trend of Supernatural and Horror based titles.
    2. He and his arch-rival Sub-Zero became the "faces" of Mortal Kombat.
    3. His fatalities are brutally horrific but amazing, particularly "Toasty" (his original fatality in the very first game).
    4. His design looks cool and it even got improved over time with the updated technology and graphics. Nowadays, his outfits are a lot more detailed than what he had in the earlier games.
      • In the earlier Mortal Kombat games, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, and the other ninjas wore the same kinds of outfits, just with different colors. The later games went more elaborate and each ninja got their own kind of design for their outfits.
    5. He had great character development with Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang), Raiden and everyone else in the Mortal Kombat universe.
    6. He is never afraid to become the champion of the Mortal Kombat tournament.
    7. He teamed up with the Justice League once in the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe crossover.
      • He also meet Kratos while he fought against Sub-Zero in a trailer for Mortal Kombat (2011).
    8. Despite his rivalry with Sub-Zero (both Bi-Han and Kuai Liang), he ended up becoming allies with Kuai Liang in the timelines of MKX and MK11.
    9. While he wasn't handled well in the 90s Mortal Kombat movies, his portrayal in the 2021 reboot was definitely a huge improvement and the few scenes he had in that film already developed him way more than what the old movies gave us combined.
    10. He proves that he can be a great fighter by doing some training.
    11. He is also never afraid of competing against everyone else in the NetherRealm.
    12. Patrick Seitz (who voiced Dio Brando from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) did a great job voicing him. Ed Boon and Ron Yuan also did good jobs voicing Scorpion.
      • In the 2021 live-action movie, Hiroyuki Sanada gave an outstanding performance and he was an amazing casting choice to play Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion.
    13. He had a devastating backstory where his family and clan were killed and it led to him seeking revenge.
    14. His famous quotes from the very first game:
      • GET OVER HERE!!!
      • COME HERE!!!
    15. His character personality gets fleshed out in Mortal Kombat X, in a more tolerable way, with his revenge quest being toned down after being brought back as a human and taking Takeda under his guidance, and the scene where he killed Quan Chi was among the most satisfying scenes of the entire game, were it not for dooming the revenants to such status forever and inadvertently aiding Shinnok's unsealing.
      • Hanzo didn't just avenge his family and clan, but also Bi-Han/Original Sub-Zero, who was framed for the actions Quan Chi was responsible for.
    16. In the current timeline of the game series, Hanzo Hasashi may not be Scorpion anymore but it's still awesome and rather interesting that it's now Kuai Liang.
    17. He got his own awesome animated movie in 2020 called Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge.

    Bad Qualities

    1. He wasn't playable in the original Mortal Kombat 3, though Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy fixed this.
    2. He wasn't portrayed well in the 90s live action films.
      • In the 1995 film, Scorpion is just a silent thug with little to no personality or characterization; other than a brief mention of his rivalry with Sub-Zero, he has no development at all which is unfortunate.
        • It's also a bad thing that he gets shamelessly killed off by Johnny Cage in the middle part of the movie, despite the fight being cool by itself.
      • He's even worse in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation where he is alive again without enough explanation and comes out of nowhere just to fight Sub-Zero and then disappear after a few minutes. Furthermore, he doesn't appear again after that and his fate is unknown, leaving him even more underdeveloped. Basically, he was portrayed in this film as an even more mindless fighter with an abrupt introduction and is only there for a few minutes just to a fight another character and then suddenly disappear without any proper characterization; he was done dirty in this movie.
        • His line "Suckers!" is also painfully laughable and it became a meme.
        • His costume in Annihilation also looks pretty cheap and unrealistic; it looks more like something for cosplay than an actual ninja outfit.
    3. Although he gets his revenge on Quan Chi, killing him not only results in the rest of the fallen heroes staying as revenants, but it also gets Shinnok freed and Johnny Cage kidnapped.
    4. He was abruptly killed off in Mortal Kombat 11 by D'Vorah, the most hated character in MK series.
      • Fans say that it would have been better if Noob Saibot was the one who killed Hanzo because of their rivalry.

    Trivia

    • Scorpion is Ed Boon’s favorite Mortal Kombat character.
