Roronoa Zoro, also known as "Pirate Hunter" Zoro, is the combatant of the Straw Hat Pirates, and one of their two swordsmen. Formerly a bounty hunter, he is the second member of Luffy's crew and the first to join it, doing so in the Romance Dawn Arc.
As a master of Three Sword Style, a swordsmanship style that he created during his childhood training in Shimotsuki Village, Zoro is among the three most powerful combatants of the Straw Hats, alongside Luffy and Sanji. His dream is to become the greatest swordsman in the world, in order to honor a promise he made to his deceased childhood friend Kuina.
In addition to his infamy as one of the Straw Hats and as a former bounty hunter, Zoro is also regarded as one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation".
Why He Rocks
- His friendship with Luffy.
- Although he's strict, he doesn't take it too seriously.
- Kazuya Nakai is doing a superb job on voice acting.
- His rivalry with Sanji.
- His backstory is very well-done, as when he was a small child, he was a wandering challenger, always challenging various dojos. In one particular dojo, he met Kuina, who defeated him. From there on, he joined the dojo, training hard so that someday he can defeat Kuina, only to find out one day that she unfortunately died. From there on, he trained even harder, took in her sword, and became a true swordsman.
- He has plenty of techniques with 3 swords (katanas)!!!
- He talks about respect on be a captain.
The Only Bad Quality
- He has a poor sense of direction. In fact, his sense of direction is so bad, he SOMEHOW got lost on a straight path! Even Sanji questioned his sense of direction thanks to it!
Trivia
- Zoro is the only Straw Hat Pirate to be named after a real-life pirate, this being François l'Olonnais.
