Rocky Balboa is the main protagonist of the Rocky boxing film series created by Sylvester Stallone and the deuteragonist of the Creed series. He was portrayed by Sylvester Stallone.

    Why He's The Italian Stallion

    1. Rocky goes through a lot of character development throughout the film series and refuses to give up against his opponents.
    2. Sylvester Stallone did an outstanding job as Rocky and got nominated Best Actor for the first Rocky movie and Best Supporting Actor for the first Creed movie.
    3. “Gonna Fly Now” and “Eye of the Tiger” are very memorable and inspiring leitmotifs for Rocky. They both got nominated Best Original Song.
    4. Rocky goes through a healthy and supportive relationship with Adrian and they have a son by the second movie.
    5. He has an impressive array of enemies: Apollo Creed, Spider Rico, Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago, Tommy Gunn and Mason “The Line” Dixon.
    6. Despite his violent occupations, Rocky is ultimately well meaning and doesn't want to hurt people, he just happens to be good at it.
    7. Rocky never gives up a fight unless knocked out or dazed to a point where he can't recover before the count.
    8. Rocky's motivational speech to his son has gone down in legend, and eclipses the actual boxing in the movie.
    9. In the sixth movie, Rocky is in his 60s, Older and Wiser, running a restaurant, owning many pets, and still being his humble self, with the only flaw being that he's holding onto the past too tightly.
    10. Rocky's defining character trait and main theme throughout the entire franchise is his determination. All of the Rocky movies can be seen as a love-letter to the trope, including the over-the-top training montages. This even extends to the way Rocky fights, as this is the core of his entire style.
      • He might not be the strongest offensively, but he can take infinitely more punishment than seems humanly possible, which lets him ride out fights up to the double digit rounds that most of his opponents have never needed to go into.
    11. In the first two Creed movies, he tutors Adonis Creed.
    12. In the first film, he knows that he will lose, but decided that he'll go the distance so at least he won't be seen as a bum.

    Bad Qualities

    1. In Rocky IV, he chose to honor Apollo's wishes and refused to stop the fight, which allowed Drago to kill Apollo.
    2. He was at his lowest point in Rocky V. He did get much better in Rocky Balboa.

    Trivia
