Rock Lee (ロック・リー, Rokku Rī) is a shinobi of Konohagakure's Lee clan and a member of Team Guy. Unlike most shinobi, he lacked the skills necessary to use ninjutsu or genjutsu. However, he overcomes those shortcomings by undergoing special training from Might Guy that would make him a taijutsu master while still a genin.
Why He Rocks
- Unlike all the other characters in Naruto, he can't use Ninjutsu or Genjutsu. Instead he uses Taijutsu, which makes him stand out.
- He has some of the best fights in the series, including the legendary Rock Lee vs Gaara. Speaking of which.
- During his fight against Gaara, when he took off his weights and became faster than a bullet train, it blew everybody's mind away, and that moment became extremely well known to anime fans.
- He doesn't hold a grudge against Gaara even though he nearly ended his career as a shinobi, forgiving him and even trying to fight alongside him against Kimimaro, and later becoming good friends with him.
- Even when Sakura rejects him, he doesn't hold any jealousy or resentment, taking her rejection like a man and still going out of his way for her.
- He has some fantastic relationships with Naruto, Sakura, Gaara, Guy and the other characters.
- He is one of the strongest characters in the entire Naruto series. When he becomes drunk, he is almost unstoppable, as shown during his fights against Kimimaro and Raiga.
- During a filler arc, he helped a small curry shop stay in business due to him working out. A young boy working in the shop saw him and became less of a wimp and started working out, however that boy sadly joined a group of villains, but he does turn good and return to the shop at the end of that arc.
- His popularity even gave him an underrated spin-off series. The series is called Rock Lee and his Ninja Pals and each episode is extremely funny, and revolves around Rock Lee trying to become a better ninja.
- He trains real hard to get stronger, even when he is badly injured, like when he was shown doing push ups while badly injured during the middle training segment of the Chunin Exams arc.
- He has tons of hilarious moments, one of the most notable moments are the piggyback scene at the end of the Kazekage Rescue Mission, and of course his drunken moments.
- He cares deeply about his friends. One example is in the Chunin Exams, where he saved Sakura's life and helped her protect Naruto and Sasuke from the Sound Ninja Genin.
- In Shippuden, he helped Naruto and the others rescue Gaara and even cared about Naruto's hurt feelings when he found out that Gaara was dead.
- He managed to destroy Madara's connection with the Ten-Tails.
- His Japanese and English voice actors do an excellent job at voicing him.
- He is one of the most relatable characters, as he can't use ninjutsu or genjutsu.
- While we don't see him much in Boruto, he does show up from time to time. He also has a son named Metal Lee in the series who does show up rather often.
- His designs are decent.
Bad Qualities
- His first appearance was a bit rushed due to the Chunin Exams just about to start.
- During his fight with Gaara, the sand ninja severely injured him, so he was a bit useless during half of part 1 until the Kimimaro fight.
- His Shippuden and The Last designs, while decent, are a bit lazy. They are just his original design but with a jacket.
- Unfortunately, like several other characters in the original series, he was mostly forgotten in Shippuden and never really had any moments to shine or to prove himself. It can be pretty sad, considering he never got the chance to beat Neji and he never got to gain Sakura's love either.
