    Species: Half-Azarathian
    Half-Demon
    Portrayed by: Tara Strong

    Media of origin: Teen Titans

Rachel Goth, better known as Raven is one of the four deuteragonists of the 2003 animated series Teen Titans and the movies Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo and Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans. She is a half-demon, half-human hybrid from the inter-dimensional world Azarath, one of the five founding members of the Teen Titans, and the daughter of Angela "Arella" Roth and Trigon the Terrible. Initially, she is an aloof ally to the Titans, only with them because she has nowhere else to go. Overtime however, she starts to open up to them, especially Starfire and Beast Boy, being lifelong best friends with the former and having an implied crush on the latter. She is voiced by Tara Strong.

    Why She Rocks

    1. Raven helped the Titans for years, working alongside the other four to protect Jump City from various menaces.
    2. Eventually, however, Raven's past caught up with her: On her birthday, Slade (who had been presumed dead) reappeared, wielding new powers and marked with a symbol that Raven could not fail to recognize.
    3. Raven's backstory is pretty compelling. On her birthday, Slade (who had been presumed dead) reappeared, wielding new powers and marked with a symbol that Raven could not fail to recognize.
    4. She always has a snarky and wry sense of humor that is always extremely funny to watch, and it makes her pretty relatable/sympathetic, which contrasts Beast Boy's goofball nature in terms of comedy.
    5. On the surface she may generally seem cold, blunt, antipathic, and distant towards those she can't stand, but on the inside, she's much kinder and a sweet person once you get to know her on her good side.
    6. She managed to undo the damage of her father wiping out all life and Earth and nearly gaining control over the entire universe.
    7. She hates bickering, normally serving as the voice of reason of the Titans, as well as the one most willing to listen to others on a rational level.
    8. Her character design looks pretty.
    9. A lot of times, she can be in a mood, and she is quite expressive about it despite trying to remain cool, calm and collected all the time.
    10. Tara Strong does a cool job voicing her, giving her a beautifully low tone of voice whenever she says anything.
    11. Out of all the characters in the infamous reboot, she was the least flanderized and still kept most of her charm and likability.

    Bad Qualities

    1. She ended up fulfilling her Birth Prophecy, allowing her father, Trigon, to end all life on Earth, and nearly cause the entire galaxy to fall under his control. But luckily, she did reverse the damage.
    2. She tends to be the most cynical of the Teen Titans.
    3. She is somewhat detached as she does isolate herself from her friends.
    4. Although not as much as her teammates, she was still flanderized in the reboot as she became a hypocritical, short-tempered, and evil demon who is extremely ruthless to anyone. But she still kept most of her charm.

    Trivia

    • Raven is by far the most powerful character in the series, even exceeding that of her father Trigon. Her powers may be extremely difficult to control but still remain unmatched by any other character.
    • Raven uses her famous incantation “Azarath Metrion Zinthos” approximately 68 times throughout the series. This includes times where she is only able to complete part of her incantation, which are counted as half utterances of the phrase.
    • Raven's demonic form can somewhat be compared to the "Avatar State" from Avatar: The Last Airbender in the sense that it is where she is the most powerful, but also the most vulnerable, as showcased in her fight with Terra in "Aftershock - Part 1”.
    • Raven is shown to be the only Titan who cannot cook. This is shown in the episode "The End - Part 1", when Raven attempts but fails at making pancakes. All four other Titans are shown to have made successful meals at some point in the show. Starfire has made numerous Tamaranean dishes, Beast Boy has made tofu eggs, Cyborg has made spaghetti and other dishes, and Robin has made eggs and a ham.
    • Raven's pale skin tone may be explained with her ethnicity being half-demon.
    • She might be the only tolerable character in Teen Titans Go!, she became a short-tempered emo-like character, however.
    • In "Switched", Raven despises Starfire's long hair, which may conclude why she likes to keep it short.
