Princess Peach is a character in Nintendo's Mario franchise. Originally created by Shigeru Miyamoto, Princess Peach is the princess of the fictional Mushroom Kingdom, which is constantly under attack by Bowser. In The Super Mario Bros Movie, she is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and the protector of the Toads. She also came in a Warp Pipe in the Mushroom Forest as a baby, was raised by the Toads, and was even crowned princess by the Toad General. She is voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy. She also meets Mario, takes him to an floating obstacle course to succeed and go with her to the Jungle Kingdom to get the Great Kong Army, and she, alongside Mario and Toad go to the Jungle Kingdom.
Why She Can Do Anything
- For starters, she is at her absolute best in this movie, as she is charismatic, capable, and a confident leader, but is still sweet and girly like her Nintendo Princess Peach. This can also be compared to her Super Mario Adventures counterpart, where she is charismatic, capable, and a confident leader.
- She has many funny moments in the movie, such as:
- Her throwing Mario on the Peach's Castle floor and him hitting it.
- Her not being happy that Mario is failing the obstacle course.
- Her giving a speech and a Blue Toad says "Uh, who's he?" and her saying "He's not important!"
- The scene of Mario getting a Cheep Cheep on his face and (not in the final film) she pulls it off only for it to go on Toad's face.
- Bowser singing "Peaches".
- Her holding Mario and Toad in the Driver's kart who are about to fall while they are traveling in the Jungle Kingdom so she can convince Cranky Kong to let her get the Great Kong Army.
- Her reaction to Donkey Kong beating up Mario.
- Cranky Kong saying to Princess Peach "Well I guess he got the wrong mushroom!"
- Mario says that he will buy Princess Peach a turtle in Brooklyn.
- Bowser says to Princess Peach "No, Princess! I stole this star for us! I guess... love really makes a guy come out of his shell.", Princess Peach giving Bowser a confused look, Bowser saying to Kamek "I told you that line wouldn't work!", and Kamek saying to Bowser "You're doing great!".
- Her in her wedding dress from Super Mario Odyssey punching Kamek in the face.
- Her force-feeding Bowser a Mini Mushroom, with him turning into Mini Bowser, thus leading to Toad putting him in a jar.
- Her design is completely gorgeous, as she has realistic hair, her crown is realistic, her dress is realistic looking, and more. Despite this, her design is incredibly faithful to her Nintendo counterpart. Her design can even be considered better than her Nintendo counterpart.
- She has many memorable lines, some of which are iconic, thanks to the film's writing, such as:
- "I will not let him hurt you. We are going to stop Bowser."
- "I'm going to convince the great Kong army to help us. Together, we'll annihilate that monster!"
- "I can convince him. I'll leave for the Jungle Kingdom in the morning."
- "Wait. Release him."
- "Are you..."
- "He's a human!"
- "I mean, you are a human, right?"
- "It's just that you're... so small."
- "Wait, wait, wait. Let's go back. Where did you come from?"
- "Then it's only a matter of time before he's captured by Bowser. But you're in luck — I'm on my way to stop him."
- "This guy's a lunatic. A psycho. He will eat you for breakfast. He won't even notice it probably because you're very, very small."
- "Okay. Let's see what you're made of."
- "No. That's a 'Let's see what you're made of."
- "If you can finish this, you're coming with me. Watch and learn."
- "With the power-ups. They give us special abilities."
- "Go on. Eat it."
- "Down the hatch! Yup, there it is, and all gone!"
- "And strong. And you can jump!"
- "Oh yeah... When you get hit, you lose the power."
- "Ooh..."
- "Come on, try again."
- "Well... We have a long journey ahead of us, moustache."
- "You almost did. No one gets it right away."
- "Oh, so many. I was not good at it. Worse than you."
- "I got it right away, but I grew up here."
- "No! No... Is it working?"
- "They're all counting on us. No pressure."
- "My Toads! Our days of terror are almost over! With the help of Kong army, we will stop---"
- "He's not important!"
- "Nervous?"
- "A Toad brave enough to join me?"
- "Well, that settles it."
- "You're coming with us."
- "Let's move!"
- "Pretty incredible, huh?"
- "Thinking about your brother?"
- "Don't worry; we're going to save him."
- "I... don't know where I'm from."
- "Yep. My earliest memory is arriving. I was so lucky they found me. They took me in, and raised me like one of their own, and when I was ready, they made me their princess."
- "There's a huge universe out there. With a lot of galaxies."
- "We are here to see the king."
- "Great and mighty Cranky Kong."
- "Yes, your Highness. Without your help, the Mushroom Kingdom will be annihilated."
- "Because we have heart! And with your strength... we can win."
- "That's it?"
- "But if the Mushroom Kingdom falls, the Jungle Kingdom is next!"
- "Give us a second."
- "This is a really, really bad idea."
- "Get up, Mario!"
- "Mario! THE BOX!"
- "He really does."
- "That was incredible! He kept beating you senseless...
- "and you kept getting back up?! You just don't know when to quit!"
- "It's a great thing!"
- "He beat him there and ambush him!"
- "To the Mushroom Kingdom, and the biggest fight of our lives! Here... we... go!"
- "Is there anything like this in your world?"
- "Is there anything like this in your world?"
- "What are you gonna tell me next? That the turtles aren't evil?"
- "No way!"
- "Maybe I will."
- "Guys, enough!"
- "It's an ambush!"
- "Mario!"
- "NO! No, Mario!"
- "We have to get home!"
- "Bowser's on his way! You have to evacuate!"
- "Hurry! Get out of the city!"
- "We lost the army... and Mario is gone. Bowser is coming. Head into the forest. I'll buy you some time."
- "Go with the others."
- "If you're going to use it, use it now!"
- "Marry you? Are you insane?! I would NEVER marry you."
- "NO! STOP! PLEASE STOP! I-I'll marry you. Just don't hurt my Toads!"
- "Great job."
- "It's perfect."
- "You really thought I'd marry you?"
- "I'd NEVER marry a monster!"
- "Ah!"
- "No..."
- "Mario! The Star!!"
- "NO!"
- "Not bad, moustache. And Luigi, you're so brave!"
- She Truly cares for the Toads, the Toad General, Toad, Mario, the Driver, Cranky Kong, Donkey Kong, and more.
- Her relationship and dynamic between Mario and Toad is great and incredibly faithful to the games.
- Anya Taylor-Joy does a great job voicing Princess Peach, despite being lowered down and sounding like her normal voice, and is on par with Jeannie Elias' performance of Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show and Club Mario (via archive recordings), Tracey Moore peformance for Princess Peach w:The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and Mario All Stars (via archive recordings), and Lesie Swan's peformance for Princess Peach in Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Super Paper Mario. According to Anya Taylor-Joy, she wanted to do a more accurate-Princess Peach game voices, but the directors wanted her to lower down her voice for Princess Peach.
- She can be considered badass, due to the reasons of her being better than her video game counterpart, alongside with her driving on Rainbow Road and fighting Bowser's troops.
- Her battle scenes are awesome:
- The scene of Mario trying to fight Donkey Kong, only for the latter to beat him up, with her watching it happen, only for the latter to beat up him, Mario hitting a Question Block, him eating a Mini Mushroom, him turning into Mini Mario, he runs to Donkey Kong and realizes he is tiny and didn't eat a Super Mushroom (as he thought), him holding Mario, Cranky Kong telling Princess Peach "Looks like he got the wrong mushroom!", Donkey Kong doing the Seth Rogen laugh, Mario turning into Cat Mario, him sitting down and making a face and (with him getting annoyed), and Donkey Kong laughing at him and Cat Mario scratching Donkey Kong. She even tells Mario "Mario! THE BOX!" and Mario gets the Super Bell, which is great.
- The scene of Mario, Princess Peach, Toad, Donkey Kong, and Bowser's troops racing, doing Mario Kart, fighting on Rainbow Road is nothing short of awesome.
- The scene of her in her wedding dress fighting Bowser's enemies after she rejects Bowser and she fights back. She even gets to use an Ice Flower to turn into Ice Peach.
- Her castle, named Peach's Castle, is beautiful and nice, and is incredibly faithful to the games. It is also based on its appearance in Super Mario Odyssey while taking some inspiration from Super Mario 64.
- While she doesn't fall in love with Mario in this movie, it is implied that they are starting to grow feelings for each other.
Bad Qualities
- Due to the film's pacing being way too fast, the potentially interesting plot of Princess Peach being from another world and not the Mushroom Kingdom is barely focused on. Though it will likely be explained in the sequel.
- Her friend Princess Daisy does not appear. It was also a big missed opportunity to have Princess Peach going to Sarasaland from Super Mario Land and WarioWare: Get It Together! to get Princess Daisy and she chooses to help Mario, Princess Peach, Toad, and other characters because to stop Bowser from taking over the world with an A-list celebrity similar to the other characters (like Emma Stone, Jenny Slate, Zendaya, or Deanna Mustard reprising her role from the games), she would have worked in a supporting role, and the end would've teased Princess Daisy and Luigi's relationship together. The closest things to Princess Daisy appearing are her emblem appearing on a bus stop sign, the Sand Kingdom from Super Mario Odyssey appearing, and a character who appeared to be her on Rainbow Road.
- While Bowser does also convince Princess Peach to marry her, it was a huge missed opportunity to have her and maybe Toad getting kidnapped, with Bowser or one of the Koopa Troopas in a Koopa Clown Car taking Princess Peach, and putting her and/or Toad in a cage to burn them with lava, with Mario defeating Bowser and Princess Peach.
- She could have celebrated Mario and Luigi's victory of saving Brooklyn and the Mushroom Kingdom, with her having a massive celebration with a cake and a party in Peach's Castle, with her kissing Mario and Luigi in the face (despite Mario and Princess Peach's relationship being implied at best).
- She could have given Toad a headlamp and an adventure outfit and made him Captain Toad, especially since he has a similar backpack and even the Captain Toad theme playing in the scene where Mario goes into the Mushroom Kingdom and he meets Toad. Concept art also shows Captain Toad appearing.
- Idiot Moves:
- In the scene of where she first meets Mario, she trusts him, despite the fact that he is a complete stranger who broke into Peach's Castle, and she doesn't even pack any food for the trip to the Jungle Kingdom.
- For some reason, in the wedding scene, she gets a spear from a Red Koopa Paratroopa where she lights it on lava, and she uses it on King Bob-omb even though he didn't do anything wrong, which is dishearting. Thankfully, she does get her comeuppance when the explosion of King Bob-omb makes her lose her Ice Peach suit. Though In addition, she also does not even run away when King Bob-omb is exploding.
- As Funny as it may be to some people in WSCDA#2 There was a infamous moment where she says about Mario "He's not important!" For no reason can be mean spirited and rude.
- While Anya Taylor-Joy's performance of Princess Peach is great, she can give a bad performance and her voice can sound too similar to her normal voice. According to her, she wanted to use a more accurate-Princess Peach game voice, but the directors didn't want that and wanted her to use her normal voice instead.
- Her design, while it can be considered better than her Nintendo counterpart's design, can nonetheless be considered off, bad and of course it's absolutely not perfect, especially since her eye pupils shrink a lot.
- Also depending on your opinion, her design could have been more detailed and polished as her SSBU design.
