    Incredible Characters Wiki

You know... the weirdest part is how it feels. Leaving home is crazy. Going to the city is crazy. Everything you've told me is completely crazy. But it doesn't feel crazy anymore. It feels like I'm doing the right thing.

Oscar Pine is a character in RWBY who first appeared in "The Next Step" of Volume 4. Formerly a farmhand from Mistral, he has decided to help protect the world from Salem. He is also the current incarnation of the ancient warrior Ozma.

    Why He Rocks

    1. He's very courageous and compassionate, continuing to proceed in his goal of protecting the world from Salem no matter how much gets thrown his way due to being the most recent incarnation of Ozma. Which is a long list, from a member of her Faction attacking him, to losing all privacy due to sharing his mind with Ozpin, he still continues and never surrenders to the challenges he faces.
    2. Oscar's training with the gang made him strong enough to take Headmaster Lionheart completely by surprise, keeping him on the defensive all throughout their clash, showimg how much he's developed from a completely hapless kid. And by the time the group reaches Atlas, he's able to kill a Sabyr in one strike while performing some pretty impressive acrobatics. And when Neo attacks him to steal the lamp from him, he not only survives, but is able to break her out of her illusion and send her flying backwards with a single punch. Ozpin's return allows him to summon green energy that lets him strike through solid rock and survive a fatal fall even though his Aura was previously broken.
    3. Even after Qrow punches him and Jaune pins him against the wall due to them being so angry at Ozpin, he still doesn't hold a grudge against either of them, and even spars regularly with Jaune's Team in Volume 7.
    4. He's incredibly cute and his shyness, sweetness, nervousness and apologetic unassuming and polite personality only supports this.
    5. While the heroes are dealing with Ironwood, the general shows more of his concerns and possible ideas to the farmhand than anyone else, and Oscar reciprocates by encouraging him to put his trust in other people. This is in part James hoping that Ozpin will return to advise him in what to do against Salem. Oscar himself plays a big role in convincing Ironwood to bring Robyn and the Council into the fold when Mantle gets invaded by the Grimm, thereby briefly saving the city. Only for Ironwood to shoot him in Atlas Vault when Oscar tries one last time to mend bridges, showing how far he's fallen in his paranoia.
    6. Even when he's shot and send tumbling down Atlas to Mantle below without any Aura to protect him, he doesn't allow panic to overwhelm him, which enables him to discover the power he needs to unlock to save himself. Instead of being left shaken by the near-death experience, he simply picks himself up and orders Ozpin to help him save Atlas next.

    Bad Qualities

    1. Due to his inexperience and his own fear of what he's up against, Oscar lashes out at Ruby when she tries to cheer him up after a training session, exasperatedly asking her how she can remain so calm in the face of everything that's happening. But to his credit, he quickly regrets his words when Ruby soberly tells him about Penny and Pyrrha, both of whom were murdered by the same person they're being pitted against, explaining that while she is scared of Salem, she is even more scared of what could happen if Salem isn't stopped.
    2. He ends up facing arguably one of the most amounts of trauma of any character of the series, as mentioned above.

    Trivia

    • His surname "Pine" corresponds to the evergreen tree species of the same name, which are evocative of green colors.
    • Both his English and Japanese voice actors both portrayed Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist.
    • Oscar is the first name of The Wizard of Oz, the character Ozpin alludes to, whose full initials are OZPINHEAD. "Oscar Pine" also does somewhat sound like "Ozpin".
