Orel is the protagonist of the stop-motion animated series, Moral Orel. He is an 11 (later 12)-year-old devout Christian who goes through life trying to discover how to be moral and good. He explores various concepts surrounding Christianity. He lives in the religious Protestant Christian town of Moralton with his abusive alcoholic father, Clay, his clean-obsessed and emotionally-detached mother, Bloberta, and his spoiled 7-year-old half-brother, Shapey.
Why He Rocks
- Much like Butters from South Park, Orel is portrayed as a kind, helpful, optimistic and very sympathetic towards others.
- Orel is always a nice character to anyone he meets and never acts rude at all. Even one's that he does not like.
- As the series progressed, he is given character development and we see his full maturity occur.
- His stop-motion design is well detailed, fluent, and cute.
- He is never afraid to speak up to his father, especially in season 3 where he wouldn't gulp whenever Clay would send him to his study. It really shows that Orel has now matured in his life and makes sure that Clay can't overpower on his life.
- Even after being shot and neglected by Clay, he shot a bear to save him, showing how sympathetic he is and that even when Clay acted rotten towards him, he still shows his love for his father.
- He is voiced by Carolyn Lawrence who does a great job making him sound like a young boy.
- At the end of the show, Orel is seen married to Christina, which not only ends Moral Orel on a high note, but shows that all the bad things Orel went through, payed off, and he will be happy for the rest of his life.
The Only 2 Bad Qualities
- Orel singing, "I Hate You, Jesus!" is not a good thing, that's blasphemy and perhaps the worst thing he has ever done.
- In all of Season 1, Orel has made a lot of horrible decisions in life that has always gotten himself into trouble, though this is to blame on Moralton as they manipulate him.
- In one of the episodes, he became a serial rapist.
