Media of origin: The Quintessential Quintuplets

Nino Nakano (中なか野の二に乃の, Nakano Nino?) is one of the main characters of The Quintessential Quintuplets series. She is the second sister of the Nakano Quintuplets, the others being Ichika, Miku, Yotsuba and Itsuki. She usually acts as the mother of the family; cooking for them and taking care of their medical needs. Among the five sisters, she is the one who has the highest hostility towards Fuutarou Uesugi and often rebelled against him early in the series.

    Why She Rocks

    1. Nino is one of the most well-written tsundere characters in anime, right after Taiga Aisaka.
    2. While Nino is usually sour and rebellious against Fuutarou, she is mature and responsible to her other sisters.
    3. She is considered to be the mother of the siblings. While Ichika is destined to be the eldest of the five, Nino's care for them - such as carrying around bandages because one of them was bound to get injured, clearly shows - the attitude she has with them.
    4. Like her other quintuplet sisters, voluptuous and busty, Nino had the most girlish character design and usually possesses many cute accessories.
    5. Her notable accessories are twin butterfly-shaped ribbons on both sides of her head. She wears a long-sleeved sweater that covers her uniform and a pair of white thigh-high socks.
    6. Out of all her sisters, Nino is a great cook.
    7. Of the quintuplets, Nino's opinionated personality is the most likely to incite conflict, but she always makes amends with her sisters because she subscribes to her mother's words to always stick together.
    8. Despite her conflictive personality, there are some lines she's not willing to cross, owing to how much she values her family, like when she makes Miku cry with her teasing, he genuinely feels bad, immediately does her best to apologize.
    9. Her character development is very significant, as she gets more matured than before.
      • She becomes less aggressive and acknowledges her feelings properly to Fuutarou ever since she cuts her hair to medium length.
      • It takes a while to sink in, but when Fuutarou, disguised as Kintarou, tells her that he doesn't care about studying and just wants her and her sisters to be together, she starts to realize not only that he genuinely cares for them, but also that her own attitude is driving her sisters away.
      • Nino tries to deny the fact she may be in love with Fuutarou, as they ride together on his motorcycle, she confesses her love to him as she's speaking about how it will get lonelier since they all passed their exams.
      • When she realizes that Fuutarou didn't hear her confession over the wind, Nino was about to leave it at that, but turns around and confesses properly and unambiguously to make sure he hears it this time, leaving him stunned into monosyllables.
    10. Ever since she opened up to Fuutarou, Nino become very bold, and makes various attempts to be closer to him.
    11. In chapter 81, Nino criticized Ichika on the latter's attitude and her obsession with Fuutarou. When Ichika agues back and asks how is she different from her, Nino makes it clear while she was going to fight for Fuutarou's love with everything she had, the one line she wouldn't cross would be betraying or hurting her sisters on purpose, like Ichika did with Miku.
      • Once they calm down and actually talk things out, Nino shows more sympathy for Ichika and admits that she might have taken a similar course of action had their positions been reversed.
    12. Nino confronts and helps Miku, who has been depressed in her room since Ichika betrayed her trust. Nino tells Miku that she will use this opportunity to make Fuutarou hers if Miku gives up, but encourages her not to do so if she truly loves him.
    13. The fact that she isn't that good at hiding her embarrassment at all, makes her all the more cute.
    14. Despite not being the one chosen by Fuutarou, she acknowledges Yotsuba as her rival once she makes it clear to her about her feelings for Fuutarou, even stating if things don't work out between them, she would take Fuutarou for herself.

    Bad Qualities

    1. She's not the likable type when she was first introduced, considering that she drugged Fuutarou's food when he first came to the Nakano's apartment, due to her strong disliking towards him. In fact, when she goes too far antagonizing Fuutarou, Itsuki rightfully slaps her, demanding that she apologize, but she slaps her back, resulting in both of them temporarily leaving the household.
    2. She did not take it well when Fuutarou chooses Yotsuba over her and all her sisters. When she shows concern at how she might be feeling after Fuutarou chose the latter over her and her sisters, she gets irritated with her behavior because she sees it as pity and due to a combination of Yotsuba not proactively doing anything to appeal to Fuutarou romantically, and her accepting Fuutarou's confession despite not being love with him and threatens to disown her as her sister.
      • This goes against what she said to Icihka when she claims that she would've supported any relationship that might emerge between Fuutarou and one of her sisters, even if he did not choose her. Her actual response to Yotsuba being picked shows the opposite behavior, but not without a reason. Technically, this makes her a hypocrite because of it.
    3. Fans of Nino were upset that despite having the most character development and change in her (alongside Miku), she was not the one Fuutarou ends up with at the end, meaning that all of her efforts to win his love were not only wasted, but was all for nothing.

    Trivia

    • The name Nino means "two" (二) (ni) and "from" (乃) (no).
    • Purple rose petals on Volume 3 cover (Nino's volume) means "love at first sight", which is possibly a reference to her affection towards Kintarou, who is in fact Fuutarou Uesugi.
    • Nino owns various dolls on her bed where one particular doll is often seen in the background or as a cameo throughout the series.
    • Nino has a rabbit-themed phone cover.
    • Nino's dream is to open a restaurant.
    • Nino is apparently afraid of needles, a trait she shares with Itsuki Nakano.

    • Nino seems to have a form of attraction towards blonde-haired people as she was attracted to Fuutarou's younger self and she expresses some form of attraction towards Isanari Uesugi.
    • Ayana Taketatsu (Nino's voice actress) is the second oldest of the voice actresses of the sisters.
    • Taketatsu is married to Yūki Kaiji, whom had voiced Eren Yeager, and Ayato Kirishima.
    • Nino, alongside her sisters have the same three sizes: B88-W50-H159.
