"You! You know how every one of these stories is going to end! So why do keep coming back? It's like you enjoy having the same thing repeated to you, over and over! It's a sickness, I tell you!"
Fifth Dimensional Imp
Media of origin:
Mister Mxyzptlk (real name unpronounceable) is a fictional character who appears in DC Comics' Superman comic books. He is a fifth-dimensional imp with reality bending powers who is a nuisance to Superman. He is known for his mischievous and playful nature. He enjoys challenging Superman to various games and pranks, often with the intention of causing trouble. However, he is not actually evil and does not cause long-term damage.
Why He Rocks
He likes to use his reality-bending powers (or "magic" as he calls it) to play harmless practical jokes and be a funny pest.
He has a friendly rivalry with Bat-Mite, a fellow Fifth Dimensional imp who is generally more benevolent but has less common sense.
Despite being an annoyance to Superman, Supergirl, and their friends, he is not inherently malicious. In fact, he has helped Superman on some occasions, proving himself to be surprisingly honorable. He even sometimes acts as a mentor to Superman, helping him handle the stress of being a superhero.
His continuous pranks and outwitting of Superman show that he regards their interactions as a game, devoid of any real malice.
Although bombastic and silly, he has a sense of honor and respect. He has saved Superman's life on certain occasions, admitted his mistakes, and congratulated others for defeating him. He also tries to mentor Superman, preventing him from burdening himself too much as a hero.
He's not exactly evil so much as he's more amoral, but a lot of Mxy's pranks and tricks toward others tend to be quite humorous, funny, and entertaining in nature.
In stark comparison to the rest of Superman's rogues gallery, Mxy is more content to mess around and play pranks with Clark instead of just fighting him, resulting in their squabbles being more humorous in tone.
He possesses extreme reality warping powers, making him one of the most powerful beings in any verse he encounters. At best he can crumble up the multiverse like paper
Despite all the trouble he causes, he has a soft spot for Superman. This is evident in his goldfish named Superman, symbolizing his underlying care and affection for the Man of Steel.
Despite his mischief, he ensures that his pranks don't become too malicious and even tries to help Superman in his own weird way.
His intentions are not to seek conquest or ruin. Instead, he simply wants to mess with Superman for amusement and teach lessons to others, akin to a trickster-god archetype.
It is evident that he really deeply cares about Superman and is willing to be humiliated and defeated to protect him from harm or death.
His character allows for a focus on Superman's intelligence which has received lesser attention since the 1970s.
He can be annoying at times which can make him be seen unlikable to some people
