Mewtwo is a Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon, has two Mega evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X using Mewtwonite X, and Mega Mewtwo Y using Mewtwonite Y, and is a member of the Mew duo along with Mew. Mewtwo is also the mascot of all legendary Pokémon. The iconic Pokémon made its first appearance in the Pokémon Blue and Red games on February 27, 1996.

    Why It Rocks

    1. Like pretty much every Legendary Pokémon, Mewtwo is an iconic fan favorite among fans of Pokémon and/or Nintendo as a whole. Most notably, because of it being a clone of Mew, how it can communicate in English, and how amazing it is when it uses its iconic Psychic attacks.
    2. Out of all the Nintendo characters, Mewtwo is one of the most serious characters of them all.
    3. Similar to how Pikachu became the mascot of the Pokémon franchise, Mewtwo essentially became the mascot of all Legendary Pokémon as a whole.
    4. It is bitter, misunderstood, and just trying to find a purpose in life, which we can give it sympathy for.
    5. It is always one of the best parts of the Pokémon series, especially when we see his tragic backstory, for example, the anime’s movie, "Pokémon: The First Movie".
    6. Its designs are so good to look at, and are very creative, even if it's different from Mew, which makes it so unique.
    7. Speaking of designs, the designs for its Mega Evolutions: Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, are also very good.
    8. All of its voice actors do an amazing job voicing Mewtwo over the years.
    9. It received its own animated movies, "Mewtwo Strikes Back" (the first Pokémon movie), "Mewtwo Returns" (its sequel) and "Mewtwo Strikes Back - Evolution" (the CGI remake of the first movie), which all focus on it as the main spotlight, while also giving the other characters time to shine as well.
    10. Whenever Mewtwo is portrayed as a villain, it is a fantastic one who has sympathy throughout its adventures.
    11. In the anime, it's given good character development after Ash sacrificed himself to make sure it and Mew didn't hurt each other, and seeing the other Pokémon cry for Ash (including Ash’s own Pokémon), and revive him made Mewtwo change its ways, seeing not all humans are bad, and neither are the Pokémon living with the good humans. Therefore, it always trust the goodness in many good people like Ash and his friends.
    12. Mewtwo will always help any innocent Pokémon who ever needs it, and is always fighting off bad guys to help the good guys, showing Mewtwo does have a heart.
    13. In the Detective Pikachu game and film, Mewtwo had a similar story to its original game and anime counterpart, and trusted Detective Pikachu to help it, and also gave Tim some info about his father. Just like its anime counterpart, it also saw that not all humans are bad, and began to trust the good humans, like Tim.
    14. Not to mention, its Detective Pikachu counterpart (both game and film) was a victim of the villains schemes, similar to its anime counterpart, but with the help of Tim and Detective Pikachu, they're able to defeat the bad guys.
    15. The battles Mewtwo has in the games, anime, and the films are all awesome.
    16. Its feature in Smash games: Melee, Smash 4 and Ultimate are awesome, and it got buffs in later games to make it a better fighter.
    17. These amazing quotes from Mewtwo. Enough said.

    Bad Qualities

    1. Psychic type moves (including Mewtwo’s) are no match for Dark type Pokémon such as Greninja and Incineroar. To be fair, this is the logic Pokémon was going for.
    2. In the English dub of "Mewtwo Strikes Back", while still a fantastic villain with sympathy throughout the film, it was portrayed as a generic, over-the-top, mustache-twirling villain, apparently just so children could have an antagonist to root against.
    3. It wasn't that good of a fighter in Melee, which could be why it was cut from Brawl. Thankfully, it returned in Smash 4 and Ultimate, and it got buffs to make it a better fighter.

    Trivia

    • One of the Pokémon Mansion journals states Mewtwo's birthday is February 6.
      • The same journal implies Mew was impregnated with the modified clone, just like with real-life cloning. All other depictions show Mewtwo being grown using laboratory equipment.
    • Mewtwo was the first Pokémon seen in the English dub, as it appears at the very beginning of the first dub opening.
