(Redirected from Mônica)
|
Monica is the main protagonist of the Brazilian comic book series Monica and Friends (also known as Turma da Mônica in the Brazilian translations), created by Mauricio de Sousa.
Why She Deserves Being the Owner of the Street
- She is a leader among the children in the neighborhood where she lives.
- She has a wide variety of friends, ranging from children to animals, aliens, cavemen and even dinosaurs.
- She is responsible for maintaining peace in the neighborhood, preventing the boys from causing problems or fights.
- She also has impressive super strength, which can often be compared to even superheroes like Superman.
- She has a unique, cute, and iconic design. Same goes for her plush rabbit Samson, which has even been so popular that she rarely shows without it nowadays.
- She is brave and often uses her super strength to defeat villains and criminals.
- She always helps her friends when they need her.
- As her popularity goes on and on, she not only has her own comic book, but also appears in cartoons, video games, films, clothing and various other types of merchandising.
- She was based on the daughter of the creator himself, Mauricio de Sousa.
- Originally, she was a supporting character for Jimmy Five, but she managed to prove her charisma by becoming popular in TV commercials in the late 1960s to the point of becoming the main protagonist from the 1970s onwards.
- She sometimes regrets when she smacks Jimmy Five and Smudge, that's more notable in the live-action movie "Monica and Friends: Bonds".
- Marli Bortoletto does an amazing job voicing her. Giulia Benite is also fantastic and the definition of perfect casting as her live-action counterpart.
Bucktooth Qualities
- Sometimes she is very bossy and rude to the boys, especially Jimmy Five, taking advantage of her super strength.
- In her debut in the Jimmy Five comic strip in 1963, she was very mean and unlikeable.
- The character may look very similar to Little Lulu.
- Sometimes, she is very obsessive about cute boys and dating.
- She is a bit arrogant and sarcastic in some episodes/comics.
- In the 70s stories, she is seen doing several bad things.
- She also can be seen throwing tantrums in some 90s stories, although it's likely intentional because Mauricio de Sousa's daughter of the same name, who inspired the character, was really a tantrum thrower when she was a kid.
- NSFW Quality: In some old stories, more notable in 80s and 90s stories and the episode "Como Atravessar a Sala", she is seen FULLY naked showing her butt, same thing with Maggy.
- Also, there are stories where she is seen KISSING THE MOUTHS OF OTHER CHILDREN! Remember that the legal age for dating in Brazil is 14! Monica is 7!
