Luis Fernando Lopez is one of the main characters in the Grand Theft Auto series. He appears as a supporting character in Grand Theft Auto IV and The Lost and Damned and the protagonist of The Ballad of Gay Tony. Luis is a former member of the Northwood Dominican Drug Dealers. His life takes a drastic turn when he becomes the personal bodyguard and business associate of the legendary nightclub impresario "Gay" Tony Prince.

    Why He Rocks

    1. Luis is well known for making his first appearance in GTA IV, where he is waiting in line at the Bank of Liberty, the bank Niko and the McRearys rob and he's one of the hostage. That scene would later be used as the opening of TBOGT.
    2. Luis is a relatively reserved character, as he rarely demonstrates his emotions or feelings. Despite this, Luis does care for his mother and friends as he was visually struggling to restrain his anger toward Mr. Santo because of his threatening behavior towards his mother.
    3. Luis is very sarcastic and unafraid to stand up to people if he deems it necessary. His reserved, level-headed personality makes him a perfect foil to the flamboyant, impulsive Tony.
    4. Of the two, Luis is often the more rational and down to earth than Tony, regularly finding himself in difficult situations due to Tony's reckless actions, which he has to get them both out of.
    5. Luis is the first Dominican protagonist introduced. He also speaks with a mild Dominican accent and on often uses Spanish words/phases.
    6. Luis is a one-man army of Dominican descent and one of the biggest badasses in the IV trilogy.
    7. Luis is an official licensed helicopter pilot, explaining how he is able to operate choppers.
    8. Luis works as a bouncer at Maisonette 9 and as Tony's personal bodyguard. Because of his role as a nightclub bouncer, Luis has had the opportunity to socialize and even have casual sex with famous, beautiful women.
    9. He sincerely wants to leave his life of crime and legitimately manage Tony's clubs, but his loyalty to Tony and his friends hold him back.
    10. He is seen later at the Libertonian busting a deal between Niko Bellic, Johnny Klebitz, and the Jewish Mob, which is the only time all three protagonists of the GTA IV Era comes together in one place at the same time.
    11. He appears again when he and Tony meet up with Niko and Packie over the exchange the diamonds and Gracie while Packie and Tony becoming belligerent. Luis and Niko want to go through the exchange without incident.
    12. In the final mission, Luis destroys the Russians' heroin, kills Timur and Ray Bulgarin, get the Ancelotti's off their backs, didn't lose anyone and gain new funding from newfound rich friend Yusuf Amir to reopen their clubs, earning him his happy ending.

    Bad Qualities

    1. He can be rude and dismissive most of the times.
    2. He does not get along with his family, mostly his mother, who acts ungrateful and does nothing but guilt trip him and makes it very clear that he's the unfavorite in the family.
    3. Him working for Ray Bulgarin leads to the latter discovering that he and Tony bought the diamonds that were stolen off him by the cook, and thus planning to kill them.

    • Out of the three Grand Theft Auto IV protagonists, Luis is the only one not to have someone close to him die. Niko loses either Roman or Kate, and Johnny loses his best friend Jim.
    • In TBOGT, Luis speaks with a slightly less thick accent than in GTA IV and TLAD.
    • Luis's favorite radio stations appear to be San Juan Sounds and RamJam FM.
    • Luis' physique is more muscular in TBOGT, his face is more detailed, and he has white sneakers instead of the black ones seen in GTA IV and TLAD.
    • In the GTA IV mission Three Leaf Clover, Niko can kill Luis when he is amongst the hostages in the bank, although this has no effect on the storyline.
