    Lord Maximus Farquaad
"The ogre has fallen in love with the princess!"
    Gender: Male
    Type: Pragmatic, Discreet King
    Age: 40s
    Species: Human
    Portrayed by: John Lithgow
    Status: Deceased
    Media of origin: Shrek

Lord Farquaad is the main antagonist of the 2001 animated film Shrek. He was voiced by John Lithgow.

Why He Rules Far Far Away

    1. He has memorable quotes such as "Ugh! It's disgusting!" and "The ogre has fallen in love with the princess".
    2. Unlike other animated villains, he is genuinely friendly despite being prejudiced to fairy tale creatures.
    3. He is a great satirical take on people such as Napoleon, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Michael Eisner.
    4. He has a lot of funny moments, such as where he interrogates Gingy.
    5. He is considered one of the best DreamWorks Animation villains of all time.
    6. John Lithgow did an amazing job bringing Farquaad to life.
    7. He returns in a few video games and Shrek 4-D as a ghost.
    8. He was eaten whole by Dragon, who helped Shrek and Donkey stop Farquaad and Fiona's wedding.
    9. In a comically crazy way, he manages to screw over every major villain of the first four films (including himself):
      • Sending Shrek to rescue Fiona leads to the two falling in love, which breaks Fiona's curse, sets off Shrek's character development, and lets Donkey meet the Dragon, who reforms and eats Farquaad after the latter finds out about Fiona's curse.
      • Prince Charming's plan to get with Fiona and Fairy Godmother's plan to rule Far Far Away by proxy were ruined because Shrek already rescued her.
      • Rumpelstiltskin's evil deal with Harold and Lillian to save Fiona was useless after Shrek rescued Fiona and broke her curse.
      • Heck, the only reason Shrek got involved in anything was because he was angry at Farquaad for sending all the fairy tale creatures to his swamp.

    "Short Supply" Qualities

    1. His last name sounds like a swear word, especially if you say it very fast.
    2. He doesn't appear in the Xbox/GameCube game that is based on the first film. He appeared in the Hassle at the Castle game, which remedied this and is more faithful to the film.
    3. The jokes related to his short growth gets old pretty fast.

    Trivia

    • Farquaad is based on Disney CEO Michael Eisner, who is a rival to DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg.
