Lisa Simpson is a fictional character and one of the main characters of the long-running American animated sitcom, The Simpsons. She is the middle child of the family as she is the younger sister of Bart and the older sister of Maggie. She is voiced by Yeardley Smith.

    Why She Rocks

    1. While the middle child, Lisa is the nicest, mature and well-behaved child of the Simpson family and hardly causes trouble for her family and friends.
    2. She has an adorable and great character design.
    3. She is the smartest and the most intelligent child of the family with an IQ of 159 which makes her as a high-ranking member of Springfield.
    4. Like her mother Marge, Lisa is portrayed as level-headed where she would become the "voice of reason" for her family and the community in Springfield.
    5. She has a loving interest in jazz music and practices playing her saxophone on a regular basis. Her passion for music was nurtured by her relationship with the late Bleeding Gums Murphy after meeting him in "Moaning Lisa" while she was suffering from depression and learns about expressing herself through music. Even after his passing, Lisa still looks up to him.
    6. Lisa truly cares about her family a lot, even when she gets annoyed by their actions and behaviour. Despite being annoyed with Homer's stupidity and occasionally getting into arguments with him, Lisa truly cares for her father. Regardless of getting in brawls with her older brother Bart, Lisa still looks out for him and is willing to help him. An example of this occurs in the season 2 episode "Dead Putting Society" where she takes the role as Bart's mentor and a Zen master, respectively teaching Bart how to achieve a low par after examining the golf course to be based on simple geometry and how to meditate.
    7. Her voice actress Yeardley Smith does an amazing job voicing her.

    9. Despite being flanderized in seasons 7-30, she at least reverted to her original personality in season 31.

    Bad Qualities

    1. Her character unfortunately quickly got flanderized during seasons 7-30 where she become a complete know-it-all Mary Sue as she downright outclass her peers badly and even willing to abandon her family for glory. Thankfully, she did redeem herself since Season 31 where her personality was dialed back to her normal well-behaved status.
    2. Prior to her flanderization and after she recovered from her flanderization, Lisa does have some mean-spirited moments that can make her seen as cruel, instead of being a usually kind-hearted little girl.
      • In the season 4 episode "I Love Lisa", she publicly humiliated Ralph Wiggum on live television of Krusty's anniversary show by telling him that they are not in the relationship and she never liked him while saying that she only made a Valentine's Day card for Ralph out of pity. She does feel terrible for upsetting him and makes up with him at the end by giving him a "Let's Bee Friends" card.
      • In the season 6 episode "Lisa's Rival", feeling threatened that a younger student Allison Taylor is smarter and more talented than her, Lisa decides to sabotage Allison's entry (with the help of Bart) and subject her to public humiliation. This shows how arrogant Lisa could be with her pride.
