Lan Hikari, known as Netto Hikari (光ひかり 熱斗ねっと Hikari Netto) in Japan, is the human protagonist of the Mega Man Battle Network series. His NetNavi is MegaMan.EXE.
Why He Rocks
- His design is awesome and wonderful.
- Laziness aside, Lan is a very honest person deep down since his headstrong personality and strong sense of justice makes up for all that.
- He's a pro at Virus Busting, which is his number one hobby.
- Due to him being the operator of MegaMan.EXE, he has a great relationship with his NetNavi.
- In addition to MegaMan.EXE, he also shares good chemistry with his friends Mayl, Dex and Yai and is often willing to help them out by giving them a helping hand when he needs to.
- He also respects Dex and Chaud as his friendly rivals too.
- His PETs' designs are very unique and well-designed.
- His and MegaMan.EXE's goal is to save the world from WWW's organization.
- His portrayal in MegaMan NT Warrior is faithful to how he is in the video games.
- Brad Swaile does a wonderful job voicing him.
- He's also well-voiced by his Japanese voice actor Kumiko Higa too.
- Like with MegaMan.EXE, he also made a return in 2023 with Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection which surprised many fans.
Bad Qualities
- He and his NetNavi MegaMan.EXE can argue often at times.
- Lan has a habit of sleeping in and refusing to do his homework causing him to be late in prior engagements (despite being the one who sets them up) and is a poor student in school much to his teacher Ms. Mari's frustration, making him seem extremely irresponsible.
- This results in MegaMan.EXE scolding Lan to do his homework.
- Though not his intention, his ego and arrogance also makes him have the tendency to put his friends in danger which often leads him to making reckless mistakes.
- Although not bad voice actors themselves, Colleen O'Shaughnessey and Mark Gatha's roles as Lan don't really fit the character since the former sounds way too young for him while the latter sounds way too old for him.
- Alex Doduk's role as Lan, while not entirely terrible, makes the character sound really flat and dull which might explain why he was replaced by Brad Swaile later on. Though in his defense, unlike Colleen and Mark, his voice at least fits the character a little better.
