Jon Arbuckle is a character from the Garfield comic strip by Jim Davis. He has also made appearances in the animated television series Garfield and Friends and The Garfield Show, two live-action/CGI feature films, and three fully CGI films. Jon is the owner of Garfield and Odie. The character of Jon Arbuckle was originally envisioned by Jim Davis as an author surrogate, and was the primary character of the comic strip Jon, created by Davis in 1976 and syndicated locally in the Indiana newspaper The Pendleton Times. Jon featured Arbuckle alongside his pet cat, Garfield and a dog named "Spot", who would eventually evolve into Odie. Davis eventually decided to replace Arbuckle with Garfield as the main character, with the renamed Garfield strip achieving national syndication in 1978. He can play accordion, bagpipes, guitar, banjo, and bongos and sing.

    Why He Rocks

    1. He’s a good owner to his cat, Garfield, and his dog, Odie.
    2. He has a good relationship with almost everyone in his life, showing he’s a decent guy.
    3. His most popular trait is how he always seems to be the butt of a joke in the Garfield universe, most notably how he can’t get Liz (Garfield’s vet) or any other woman to like him romantically.
    4. He has a great and well-drawn design.
    5. Thom Huge does a great job at providing his voice in the TV series, Garfield and Friends.
    6. He‘s a caring and loving family man.
    7. He has a passion for animals, as he not only takes care of Garfield and Odie but also pets it’s another cat named Nermal on occasion.
    8. Another popular trait from him is when him and Garfield are talking to each other, even though he himself can’t understand what he’s saying.
    9. He has impressive cooking as he feeds Garfield lots of delicious human food and can make an amazing looking Thanksgiving dinner.

    The Only Bad Quality

    1. He was horribly flanderized in The Garfield Show, as he became too much of a jerk and a dorky idiot for a pet owner, becoming the show's biggest object of ridicule next to Odie and sometimes Garfield himself. However, he thankfully redeemed himself as of Season 4 and right when the show ended.
