Jigglypuff is a character from the Pokémon series. It is a Normal/Fairy-type, despite it being a pure Normal-type before Generation VI, first appearing in Pokémon: Red and Blue, and a lot of games after that.

    Why It's Jigglypuff

    1. Although not as popular as Pikachu, Jigglypuff is somewhat of a fan favorite among fans of the Pokémon franchise, mainly because of its very cute design, with its most notable feature being its lovable, shiny, blue eyes.
    2. Its voice actors, Rachael Lillis and Mika Kanai do great jobs at voicing Jigglypuff.
    3. Jigglypuff's singing is very adorable to listen to and it sounds rather pleasant for the most part, as seen in many episodes of the anime.
      • Speaking of which, its song in the anime is nice and calming. Have a listen!
    4. Jigglypuff also appeared as a playable character in all five Super Smash Bros. games, with a very awesome and unique moveset, it also has very strong abilities in the game too, like the Rest move.
    5. Its famous rivalry with Clefairy in the anime is very enjoyable too.
      • Not to mention, both of them are Fairy-types.
    6. In the anime series, Jigglypuff has a hilarious running gag where it sings its song, but everyone around it falls asleep, and Jigglypuff doesn't realize that its singing ability was the reason why everyone fell asleep, so it gets mad and draws on their faces.
    7. Its anime counterpart has also helped Ash on occasions, like when it saved Pikachu from the Clefairy by slapping all of them.
    8. Since it's a combination Normal/Fairy type, it has two immunities, being Ghost and Dragon, making it easier for Jigglypuff to face said kinds of Pokémon.

    Bad Qualities

    1. Normal type moves, including Jigglypuff’s, are no match for Ghost-type Pokémon such as Mimikyu. To be fair, this is the logic Pokémon was going for.
    2. Jigglypuff can be rather rude and aggressive at times in the anime, like the one infamous scene where it kicked Pikachu all because Ash complimented Pikachu for singing well.
      • Also, Karma Houdini moment: When Jigglypuff kicked Pikachu, it did not get any punishments for kicking Pikachu; the trainers just did not care for no reason.
      • After the trainers helped heal it, Jigglypuff later decided to kick Pikachu again, but this time, Pikachu did nothing wrong.
      • In addition to this, Jigglypuff is also a bit of a hothead at times, as it often gets mad whenever someone falls to sleep to its song and it often draws on their faces with a marker whenever they do, totally unaware that it's song actually puts people to sleep. Although these scenes are funny, it can also make Jigglypuff look like a hottie who cannot handle people falling asleep to its song.
    3. While Jigglypuff was a good addition to have it in the Smash games, it also had a few problems in the game too:
      • Jigglypuff's addition to Super Smash Bros. initially met with polarizing results, with some saying it was a nice addition to the game while others thought that its appearance in the game doesn't make sense and that some other Pokémon should of been its spot, like Charizard, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Gengar, Scyther, Machamp or Mewtwo for example.
      • One big notable issue is the infamous shield break mechanic which is present in all five of the games.
      • Jigglypuff was also not a good character to play as in Brawl and Sm4sh, it initially became the lowest tiered character in Sm4sh for that matter. Thankfully, Jigglypuff did improve a bit in Ultimate and although it is far from a perfect character therein, it at least is better than it was in Brawl and Sm4sh.
    4. Its design in Pokémon Detective Pikachu isn't very good mainly due to the fact that is looks quite creepy and it portrays Jigglypuff with a furry texture, when its texture is supposed to be smooth.

    Trivia

    • Jigglypuff has a bit of a resemblance with Kirby, who is another character owned by Nintendo.
      • As a matter of fact, Kirby's model in the Smash games is used for animating Jigglypuff.
    • Jigglypuff's name in Japan is called Purin, which is also coincidentally the same name as a Sanrio character.
    • Jigglypuff is often misjudged for being female due to its feminine voice, pink skin, and large eyes, complete with curly patch of hair between its ears. However, this isn't true, as there is a 25% chance in the games that a Jigglypuff can be a male.
    • Jigglypuff is typically depicted in the Super Smash Bros. series and Ken Sugimori's artwork with green eyes and tea rose pink fur, more closely resembling its Shiny form. It also appeared with green eyes in Rough, Tough Jigglypuff and The Legend of Thunder!.
    • Due to an oversight, Jigglypuff appears purple instead of pink in the battle against Gengar in the intro of Pokémon Blue, including the Japanese version. This is a leftover from the earlier Japanese games Pokémon Red and Green, when two purple Pokémon battled instead: Gengar vs. Nidorino which is also seen in the international versions of Pokémon Red.
    • Jigglypuff and its evolutionary relatives, Igglybuff and Wigglytuff, share their category name with Qwilfish and Drifloon. They are all known as the Balloon Pokémon.
