Izumi Miyamura is the main male protagonist of Hori-san to Miyamura-kun, or Horimiya for short.
Why He Rocks
- While he may not be a very exciting person, Miyamura is very warm-hearted, confident, and very friendly towards people around him.
- His relationship with Hori is pretty well developed.
- Hori was one of the first people with whom he interacted and made a connection with other than Shindou from his old school.
- He comes over to her house to help around and hang out.
- Miyamura kissed her while eating candy.
- He stood up for Hori back when Sengokou accused her of missing documents.
- Since he knew Hori had a fetish for being hurt or yelled at, as much as he didn't want to physically or mentally hurt her, Miyamura had to play along with Hori by hurting her, or yelling at her in order to make her happy.
- Ever since he started hanging out with Hori, Miyamura is already opening up and befriended other characters, Yūki, Ishikawa, Sengokou, Sakura, and Remi.
- The tragedy surrounding his life gives a contrast as to why he was a loner at the beginning of the series:
- Miyamura being bullied and treated as an outcast during childhood was pretty depressing. The blood dripping after piercing his ear with a safety pin was also a sign of pain he felt at school.
- Even after being close to Hori, Yūki, and Ishikawa, Miyamura still feels like an outsider in the present day, internally questioning whether they truly accept him as a friend.
- His natural kindness shines brightest when he's spending time at Hori's home. Though he remains awkward at times, he's slowly but surely coming out of his shell in his school interactions too.
- Miyamura being bullied and treated as an outcast during childhood was pretty depressing. The blood dripping after piercing his ear with a safety pin was also a sign of pain he felt at school.
- After learning about the school had been spreading rumors about him and Hori, Miyamura decided to cut his hair short, knowing that he won't look as boring as everyone thought he is.
- There is a true meaning to Miyamura cutting his hair short. Not only is he changing himself for the better, but also leaving his lonely and dreaded past behind him, acknowledging the people who made him into what he is right now, thankful for the life he is living with Hori, and has brought happiness to his life.
- He may not look like it, but Miyamura is not only strong physically, but emotionally as well. He faced up to his trauma from middle school and chose to forgive Tanihara rather than harbor a grudge or seek revenge, which takes an inordinate amount of courage to do.
Bad Qualities
- He can be airheaded at times, attempting to make some people believe the fact that he has periods to avoid swimming. Although this made sense because he wanted to carefully cover up his tattoos.
- He does tend to mistreat Shindo, despite him being Miyamura's first friend.
Trivia
- Miyamura had 10 piercings in total; two of which closed, one on the lip and one on the tongue. He still has four piercings on each ear.
- He is very good at tongue twisters.
- Miyamura can't pronounce the words "暖かい atatakai" (meaning warm), "肩たたき katatataki" (meaning shoulder massage), "山吹色 yamabuki-iro" (meaning bright yellow), and "座敷童子 zashiki warashi" (a childlike guardian spirit), instead says "akkatai", "kakatataki", "mamabuki-iro", and "dashiki zarashi".
- On the webcomic ending, him and Hori had a son named Kyouhei Miyamura.
