Goddard is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Carl) in the series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius. He is Jimmy's robot dog and one of his best friends.

Why He's A Loyal "Bark bark" To Us

    1. Much like Pluto: He is truly a well-trained dog. He can get into a large amount of trouble but has enough brains to escape the situation just like his master.
      • The pup has an A-list life: a good home, family, and the greatest owner for his type.
    2. Speaking of intelligence, despite being mute and a robot, he is sharp-witted.
    3. He presents the good aspects and characteristics of a dog: being loyal, helpful, and playful.
      • Speaking of which, a lot like his friends Carl and Sheen: He is also very loyal to his family, and is always there for Jimmy when he needs him the most.
    4. He also acts as Jimmy's sidekick, best friend, conscience on some occasions, and general pet. He is also extremely competent and cooperative as a sidekick.
    5. He isn't afraid to act bravely to save his friends (albeit being programmed to do so).
    6. He is without a doubt Jimmy's most successful and reliable invention. He's also shown to be Jimmy's favorite out of all his inventions (especially when Hugh Neutron has mentioned that he can do 1 billion & 4 things except for cleaning himself).
      • Goddard is also remembered for his useful gadgets that'd usually help out Jimmy, especially where they're essentially Jimmy's inventions that are saved for convenient occasions. He also gives Jimmy options to choose from when he does not know what to do yet.
      • Whenever Jimmy is in trouble, he sends out a distress call to Goddard, who is usually already in a fix.
    7. Likewise, his robotic features are either cute or very creative.
      • Jimmy can have Goddard “play dead”, which causes him to self-destruct. Despite being blown into pieces, Goddard can instantly reconstruct himself back to normal from the scrap without any assistance. This has started becoming a decent running gag for him.
    8. His design is very adorable, and a great depiction of a mechanical canine.
    9. Goddard is shown to be able to speak in Jimmy's voice, presumably through recordings.
    10. Frank Welker does a great job at voicing him. Especially when it comes to his traditional barks.

    The Only Bad Quality

    1. He does have some doglike instincts that can be rather typical than annoying. Chasing after things, digging things in his neighbor's yard, or leaving his mess on the floor (albeit bolts and pieces of metal that would resemble his leavings) for example as things that dogs would typically do.

    Trivia

    • According to the book Genius 101: Exploring My World, Jimmy created Goddard because his parents would not allow him to create a cyborg-clone of himself.
    • Goddard's name comes from the American professor/physicist/inventor Robert Hutchings Goddard, who first posed the Goddard Problem in is 1919 book "A Method of Reaching Extreme Altitudes".
    • Despite being a main character, he only had one episode called "Best in Show" that focuses on him.
    • In the Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius Video Game, there are some parts where Goddard talks with his own voice.
