Giorno Giovanna (ジョルノ・ジョバァーナ, Joruno Jobāna) is the protagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind. He is the fifth JoJo of the series.
Why He's a Gangstar
- Unlike the previous JoJo protagonists being sometimes loud or angry all the time, Giorno on the other hand is a mostly chill character. But it doesn't mean he will let anyone live if someone hurts his friends.
- What's more interesting is that not only is he the son of Part 1 and 3's main antagonist Dio, but also the child of Part 1's main protagonist Jonathan Joestar.
- What makes Giorno stand out compared to the others is that he has blond hair, which was inherited from his father Dio Brando.
- Kensho Ono did an amazing performance, and so is Phillip Reich (who also voiced Yuya Fungami in Diamond is Unbreakable) in doing so as well.
- The infamous "Seven Page Muda".
- Giorno treats people with the amount of respect he believes they deserve based on his observations of their beliefs and actions. He seems to have inherited both of Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando's traits, with the former's being present towards peers and allies, and the latter's towards enemies. He has a good heart and wants to help out anybody who has demonstrated kindness to him or others, but casually disregards the law.
- His backstory is almost similar to Kaneki, his childhood was filled with unhappiness and loneliness due to bullies and the abuse by his stepfather. During his early childhood, he was initially cold and uncaring towards anyone and believed himself to be scum just for the way people treated him.
- His Stand, Gold Experience, is well designed.
- Even his upgraded Stand, Gold Experience Requiem, is not only well designed, but also very powerful.
- His theme song is Incredible, especially the piano solo.
- GOURUDO EKUSUPERIENSU! (Gold Experience!)
Bad Qualities
- Giorno gets way too overshadowed by his other teammates, despite being the main protagonist.
- Though not a lot of flaws and not hot tempered, he can be bland and dull personality-wise.
- Although strong, people might find his Gold Experience Requiem WAY too overpowered. This resulted him to be permanently removed from the story and never seen again.
- His ear trick is kind of disgusting.
- He's been miscasted twice.
- In the All-Star Battle and Eyes of Heaven video games, his other voice actor, Daisuke Namikawa (who also voiced Kishou Arima from Tokyo Ghoul) sounds almost as lifeless and had low energy voicing the character, especially his Mudas which sounded like he was running out of breath or choking on food.
- Romi Park (Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist) was also a huge miscast as Giorno in the Vento Aureo PS2 game and made him sound too young and bratty.
Trivia
- Giorno's hobby is listening to Les Miserables.
- His hairstyle is associated with chocolate cornets. The notation "@@@" refers to Giorno's unique hairstyle and is often used by Japanese fans to refer to him.
- Giorno takes after his father's "MudaMudaMuda..." battle cry, only shouting the last "Muda" as a finishing blow. He also lets out a "WRYYYYYY!" during his climactic pummeling of Cioccolata.
- The volume release of Giorno's beatdown on Cioccolata includes two extra pages drawn by Araki. This double page spread was not present in the Weekly Shōnen Jump version. According to JOJO A-GO!GO!, this was the first time in shōnen manga history that a "seven page beatdown" was featured.
- In Araki's top Ten Favorite Characters in 2000, Giorno ranked 5th, Araki's second favorite JoJo, and third favorite Part 5 character; Mista ranked 7th, Diavolo at 4th, & Bucciarati in 3rd place.
