Ganondorf, also known by his beast's name Ganon, is the main antagonist of The Legend of Zelda series. He is the leader of the Gerudo, as well as the only male Gerudo, who is bent on conquering Hyrule.

Why He's Anything but the Great King of Evil

    1. Ganondorf is one of the most iconic villains in video game history, rivaled by Bowser.
    2. He is one of the few villains to succeed with his goals, obtain the Triforce (even though he only obtained the Power shard of the entire relic.)
    3. Being the holder of the Triforce of Power, Ganondorf has survived even the most dangerous of incidents, including Hyrule being flooded, and being fatally stabbed in the chest by the Sword of Six Sages.
    4. His boss battles in both Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, coupled with the theme accompanying them, are awesome!
    5. Ganondorf is best known for his use of dark magic, like the Waves of Darkness, and expert skill in swordplay in most games. By using the Triforce of Power, this is when he turns into Ganon.
    6. Unlike the many incarnations of both Link and Zelda, throughout the series, there is only one Ganondorf, which shows that he always returns for more battling.
    7. He is extremely powerful, only able to be truly damaged by Link's Master Sword, Silver and Light Arrows, and even his own magic.
    8. Much like other TV show incarnations of iconic gaming villains, his villainous and badass yet goofy and hammy incarnation in the '80s Legends of Zelda cartoon is hilarious and entertaining. He was the best character in the show due to how expressive he tends to be, and how his motives make the viewers root for him to succeed much more than Link and Zelda themselves.
      • Len Carlson gives him a fascinatingly unexplained tone of voice. Where it sounds either deep or it sounds distorted in a unique fashion.
      • Even though his incarnation from the Zelda CDI games personality is too silly and ridiculous for anyone to take him seriously as a hegemonic tyrant who keeps prisoners, Mark Berry does an oddly great job making his voice very hammy, goofy, expressive, and boisterous in a hilarious way.
    9. His designs are cool and intimidating, also his Tears of the Kingdom design is also attractive which adds to his charismatic and menacing stance. This is also the first time in seventeen years that Ganondorf made a proper appearance since Twilight Princess in the main series, not counting Hyrule Warriors or the Super Smash Bros. series. His Phantom Ganon form also wasn't seen in nineteen years since Four Swords Adventures.

    Bad Qualities

    1. He doesn't appear in the games very much in his human form, unlike Ganon in his earlier times. This changed when Tears of the Kingdom rolled around and gave his human form a proper appearance.
    2. In the Super Smash Bros. series, he is a clone of Captain Falcon, rather than being his own character, despite having so much potential of that and the fact that these two characters are from two different franchises. Also, in Brawl and Sm4sh, he was considered as the worst character and (arguably) the worst character in the entire series.
      • At least Smash Ultimate made him a bit different by giving him his sword from Spaceworld 2000 Demo for his smash attacks, and while he was far from a decent character, at least he was better than in Brawl and Sm4sh.
    3. He can have some bad boss fights in the game, like his final fight in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
    4. Even though his incarnation in the CDI games can make him be viewed as hilarious and laughable, it also made him mostly unthreatening and even more ridiculous than the '80s cartoon version thereof. The only threatening thing he ever did was electrocuting Zelda for shining a lamplight on him, and he's basically a pathetically incompetent goofball whose evil plans are generic and gets killed by a book after Link does his one laser attack.
      • In "Zelda's Adventure", not only his design is incredibly cheesy and ugly, he is even blander and a lot more boring than his past counterparts.

    Trivia

    • The Wind Waker is Ganondorf's only game where he doesn't transform into Ganon.
    • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom marks the first time Ganondorf was given an actual voice.
      • Coincidentally, his voice actor Matthew Mercer, also portrayed the Ganondorf from the 2009's fanmade There Will Be Brawl webseries fourteen years prior.
    • His CDI incarnation provided the "You must die" and "It burns!" memes, which were also a staple of YouTube Poops.
