    Flint Lockwood

My dream was to help my hometown, a tiny island hidden under the 'A' in Atlantic, called Swallow Falls.
    Gender: Male
    Type: Creatively Eccentric Inventor
    Species: Human
    Portrayed by: Bill Hader
    Status: Alive
Media of origin: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Flint Lockwood is the main character of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. He's an inventor who dreams and has always have, of creating things that can change everyone's life despite having a hit-and-miss moment.

    Why He's A Creative Inventor

    1. His personality goes like this as he's a kind-hearted, good-natured, well-mannered, hyperactive, friendly, hard-working, respectful, brilliant, and creative inventor who have invented things that are out of this world including the FLDSMDFR which rained food in a place where he lives in where other food is scared other than sardines. He was able to weaponize his crazy inventions.
    2. His backstory is sympathetic as he was a prodigy who has been bullied by other kids and also had a strained relationship with his dad. This overall made Flint a man who even would be ready to go to dangerous risks just to impress others.
    3. As expected. He saved his town from his food invention that went haywire (the town's citizens were at fault as they asked for more food. Especially mayor Shelbourne who convinced Flint that bigger is better).
    4. The love between Flint and Sam is wholesome. They got to learn about each other as the time when on and even hang out as well. In the first film, they hang out in giant gelatin in the plains.
    5. He has faced character development before. In both films, Flint's selfish tendencies lead to a climax that could've been avoided. He was able to learn a lesson and fix his mistakes afterward. Sure, he's a nice guy, but still.
      • He was able to rekindle with his father as noticed in the first film at the end.
      • Another thing is that Flint originally intended to use a kill code to the FLDSMDFR in order to prevent Food Animals to be created (even got afraid of a living strawberry at one point). He then started to understand that without the machine, the food animals will die out.
        • Speaking of which, Flint's original plan got Sam upset. Flint was able to reconcile with her in the end.
    6. For a scientist who is bumbling, he's not the one to shy away from the action when there's trouble. Especially when Earl first viewed him as completely troublesome to the town because of his chaotic inventions.
    7. Has some funny moments like when he found out that the food animals were created by his machine, he states that he does not consider himself a God. Another would be the concept of snowball fights where he breaks into a random family's house just to shoot snowballs. Also when he announces what he's doing.
      • Also "THERE'S A LEAK IN THE BOAT" and "PIECE OF CAKE".
      • And these moments can come from his scientific quirks, like showing Sam how to pronounce the FLDSMDFR in a goofy way.
    8. His character design is wacky and fits well with the comedic tone of the films.
    9. Even if his inventions cause mayhem, his inventions do work where credit is due.
    10. In the first film, he was able to attempt to sacrifice himself just to save the residents from the food chaos. Luckily he survived.

    Bad Qualities

    1. Though intentional, he can sometimes look uncanny. Especially when animated.
      • His design in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: The Series is ridiculous.
    2. Flint and Sam's subplot is a little cliched.
    3. He's considered to be the "main character is bullied for being different" cliche.
    4. Flint has faced Flanderization before.
      • The second film made him dumbed down to the point where he's easily manipulated and is incredibly naive. He even screamed for nearly ten seconds.
      • In the TV series, he ramps up his obsession with making inventions and being utterly oblivious to common approaches.
    5. Chester V's and Flint's relationship and rivalry with each other feels like a ripoff of the rivalry of Charles F. Muntz and Carl Fredricksen from Up.

    Trivia

    • Gave us a meme of Flint Lockwood acting crazy while an explosion is behind him.
