Emmet Brickowski, later known by his future counterpart Radical Emmet Xtreme "Rex" Dangervest, is the main protagonist of The Lego Movie and its sequel The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, with his future counterpart being the main antagonist. Emmet started off as an average every-day person who turned into a master builder after touching the piece of resistance. Both iterations are voiced by Chris Pratt.

    Why He's The Special

    Overall

    1. Both incarnations of Emmet are well designed.
    2. Chris Pratt does an excellent job voicing them. Before he was portrayed/voiced as characters such as Peter Quill/Starlord from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Barley Lightfoot from Onward, Mario from the video game series of the same name in The Super Mario Bros Movie.

    Emmet Brickowski

    1. His character is kind of like the misunderstood protagonist trope, but it had a clever spin to his personality, making him likable and memorable.
    2. He is one of the most iconic Lego characters if not the most ever.
    3. He is very optimistic and sees the positive in situations.
    4. He was at first misjudged for being an idiot by all the master builders, but it turns out that his plans actually do work.
    5. He helped reform President/Lord Business by telling him that he doesn't have to care about himself and should care for others.
    6. He learns that being a self-believer makes him special.
    7. Emmet has great relationships with his friends, Wyldstyle/Lucy, Batman, Vitruvious, Benny, Metal Beard, Unikitty, and many others.
      • He may have expressed jealousy towards Batman at first, but he has learned to grow towards him.
    8. He sacrifices himself to save his friends from getting destructed.
    9. He is also very funny most of the time as well.
    10. Near the end of the film, he becomes a true master builder to save his friends, where he shows that he can be badass.

    Rex Dangervest

    1. Unlike the original Emmet, who's optimistic, heroic, and an idealist, Rex is the polar opposite. He serves as a much darker counterpart who was once as hopeful and positive has now turned into a vengeful person, and though he was abandoned and betrayed by his old friends, and was told by Lucy to change his ways and toughen up.
    2. Even before his true motivations were revealed, Rex still remained optimistic when he first met his past self.
    3. The way that he saved Emmet from crashing the rocket ship from house into the asteroid when he is first introduced is awesome.

    The Only Bad Quality

    Emmet

    1. He acts kinda like a coward at the beginning of the first film, but this is ultimately changed and as of the rest of the franchise, he has no bad qualities by himself.

    Rex Dangervest

    1. While its awesome to see that he saved Emmet when he is first introduced, one thing is confusing about him: Why did he save Emmet from crashing into an asteroid if doing so would cause Rex to cease to exist (due to Rex being the futuristic counterpart to Emmet) and Emmet became Rex because he crashed into the asteroid?
