Elizabeth "Eliza" Thornberry is a fictional character that appears in the Nickelodeon animated television series The Wild Thornberrys as the protagonist of the show. She is voiced by Lacey Chabert.

    Personality

Eliza is a girl who is always ready for adventure. Her natural curiosity means she often leaps before she looks often with amusing or disastrous results. She possesses the power to speak clearly to animals and understand their reactions. She loves animals and exploring the wild jungles, deserts, and forests that she travels to along with her family all around the world as they film their nature television show: Nigel Thornberry's Animal World and Sir Nigel Thornberry's Animal World post 'Sir Nigel Part 2'. What her family doesn't know is that she was given the ability to talk to every animal she meets by a shaman in Africa. Eliza's "Gift of Gab" is a secret. If anyone ever found out she speaks to animals, she would lose her powers. It isn't easy for Eliza to keep such a big thing to herself, but luckily she has her best pal Darwin to confide in. Eliza has saved numerous animals from poachers, trappers, and other perilous situations, and never fails to make new friends, no matter what species they may be from. She gains her love of adventure from her parents (her father mostly), which often leads to problems. Eliza is the only member of her immediate family to have their appendix removed. Because of her gift, Eliza goes to extreme efforts to talk to all kinds of animals and get to know them, even if they're predators. This obsession has often led to mishaps or Eliza foolishly putting herself (and sometimes others) in danger. Eliza's reckless behavior stems from her naïve perspective that, since she can talk to animals, she knows them better than actual experts and plenty of times she has been proven wrong; she never seems to learn her lesson.

    Why She Rocks

    1. Eliza is a very likable protagonist, as she's the girl who can magically talk to animals, and it's really cool, but totally secret.
    2. Being a pre-teen, she's gone on a lot of adventures, and using her powers to help animals.
    3. She likes to help anyone she can, whether it's humans or animals.
    4. She's very loyal to her family and friends, especially to Darwin, Donnie and Debbie.
    5. She loves to go on adventures and has a very bright spirit.
    6. She comes up with the most ideas to get herself and her family, as well as the animals around her, out of trouble.
    7. During The Wild Thornberrys Movie, she gave up her powers to save her sister, Debbie, from the poachers, Sloan and Bree. And after encouragement from her sister, she managed to save the heard of elephants from the poachers, which lead to the elephants fighting back against the poachers, and the poachers defeat, and got Eliza her powers back.

    Bad Qualities

    1. She can be stubborn at times when it comes to either helping animals or following her parent’s orders.
    2. Like most Klasky Csupo characters, her design is a bit ugly, kind of like an ape, but not as ugly as most of the other Klasky Csupo character design.
    3. The fights she has with Debbie are annoying at times, but it's typical for siblings to not always get along.
    4. She sometimes doesn't follow her friend, Darwin’s, safe advice when near dangerous animals and/or situations.
    5. Since she's still young, she sometimes can't do much when in a situation, such as when Sloan grabbed her during the movie when she was helping the elephants and threw her into the river.
