    Incredible Characters Wiki
(Redirected from Edd (Ed, Edd n Eddy))
Ed, Edd n (seasons 1-4’s take on) Eddy
    Ed: "Gravy!"
    Edd: "Messy messy messy..."
Eddy: "If you can't beat 'em...show off!" - His famous quote from "Dear Ed."
    Gender: Male
    Type: Comedic Scammy Trio
    Slow-Witted, Kind-Hearted Brawn (Ed)
    Intelligent Weakling (Edd)
    Greedy yet Sympathetic Friend (Eddy)
    Species: Human
    Portrayed by: Matt Hill (Ed)
    Samuel Vincent (Edd)
    Tony Sampson (Eddy)
    Status: Alive
Media of origin: Ed, Edd n Eddy

Ed, Edd (Double D), and Eddy are the three titular main protagonists in Ed, Edd n Eddy. Ed is the strongest and the least intelligent member of the Eds, Edd, also known as Double D, is the smartest, neurotic, and moralistic member of the gang, and Eddy is the self-appointed ambitious leader of the Eds.

Why They Are Anything but Dorks and Deserve Jawbreakers

    Overall

    1. They have great chemistry with each other, as they all genuinely communicate like the best friends they are.
    2. All three of them provide the funniest one-liners. Ed's one-liners are silly, Double D's are sarcastic/sharp-witted, while Eddy’s can be either funny or sadistic, depending on the moment.
    3. Like Rock Paper Scissors, all three are great examples of how to make Butt-Monkey funny (i.e. easier to root for), which is more than one could say for most Butt-Monkeys.
    4. Their conflicts with the villainous Kanker Sisters (who stalk them and find them all attractive) also make it easy for us to root for The Eds has an unforgettably intense rivalry between both trios.

    Ed

    1. Much like Goofy, he is a very good-natured, open-hearted, wholesome, and happy-go-lucky simpleton who's always having a positive and carefree attitude towards almost everything and everyone he encounters or talks to.
    2. He's the type of person who sees everybody he meets as a potential friend and someone who doesn't have a mean bone towards anybody or anything.
    3. He can be incompetent and clumsy, but in a good way.
    4. He was rather innocent, usually when playing around and/or getting others like Edd/Double D into some unintentional slapstick mayhem.
    5. He is good-hearted, well-meaning, and extremely honest about his intentions in spite of the chaos he can cause unwittingly, especially since he's a lovable and extremely wacky doofus who is simply a powerful specimen.
    6. "Aww, kitty cat go meow?"
    7. Like Patrick, Billy, and Uncle Grandpa, he may be dumb, but he presents his idiocy hilariously.
      • Also, in comparison to Patrick with his annoying moments or even in the star's flanderization, Ed is generally a sweetheart throughout the series and is also a lovably hilarious character with his perpetually goofy sense of humor and dim-witted nature as a goofball whether he's in a good or bad episode (or heck, even in good or bad seasons of said show).
    8. He is also quite accident-prone due to him being hilariously clumsy and prone to slapstick.
    9. Since Ed is very absent-minded and naive, it makes him the perfect candidate for the manipulative Eddy to help him with Double D/Edd and Eddy's scams as Ed hardly ever questions them as many lackeys would do (while Ed thwarts their scams in an unwittingly hilarious manner like an unaware hero because of his countless quirks).
    10. Despite being the dogsbody or the workhorse for almost all of Eddy's scams and a durable victim to the chaos and slapstick inflicted onto him along with Edd/Double D and Eddy, Ed never feels abused by Eddy and sees him as a friend. Sounds familiar?
      • With this in mind, He along with Edd/Double D and Eddy, are gods of durability.
    11. Ed has some of the best one-liners of the show like, "Canadians are weird!" and "How can my feet smell if they don't have a nose?"
    12. Ed is a loyal fan of low-budget horror movies, comic books, and is an animal lover as well, with chickens being his favorite animals, a running gag throughout the series of how his imagination does run wild quite entertainingly and endearingly in a pretty unpredictable manner along with his love for gravy.
    13. Speaking of his imagination, he is shown to be quite talented and can be somewhat competent when trying to help his friends.
    14. While Ed is physically shown to be quite skinny and not so muscular in the slightest, he is impressively and ludicrously strong with picking up objects with little effort or is even able to pick up objects in an impractical manner (e.g. playground structure when angry in the episode "Little Ed Blue" and was able to stretch his tongue and chew it to make it fly from his mouth!) and can sometimes make anyone fly with a simple swing of his palm as well! Showing how nobody should try to mess with him whenever he's having a bad day or not.
    15. Ed's head is shaped like a piece of buttered toast, which is pretty creative and hilarious, even for a cartoon character.
    16. His appearance with his dopey smile and silly walk has a lot of charm by how it's presented.
    17. Matt Hill does a hilarious job voicing him.
    18. "SO MOVE!!"

    Edd (Double D)

    1. He is physically the weakest of the trio, but also the most intelligent member of the Eds.
      • Despite this fact, he's just as godlily durable as Ed and Eddy.
    2. He's the most respected of the trio, to the point where even Kevin respects him on occasion.
      • For example, in "A Case of Ed," he and Kevin teamed up to give Ed and Eddy what they deserved for making him believe he was sick and dying.
      • Another example is in "The Luck of the Ed," where they were seen conversing.
    3. He is Ed and Eddy's closest friend throughout the entire series, even in their flanderization in the last two seasons.
    4. He is very cute, especially when he is being shy. He always tries to be kind and friendly, albeit sarcastic, to anyone he interacts with.
    5. Edd/Double D knows that two wrongs do not make a right as an example of correcting Ed's oddball logic and Eddy's mostly harebrained schemes.
    6. He has a good design, on par with the other characters in the show.
    7. He is an accurate depiction of a nerd (both appearance and personality-wise).
    8. He's a good friend to anyone who requires his help.
    9. He plans Eddy's scams very well (even if he only does it begrudgingly).
    10. He's pretty indulgent with Eddy in Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show.
    11. Unlike Ed and Eddy, he has attracted so many girls without even knowing it! Making him a "chick magnet" who got other girls like Marie and Sarah, and even Nazz being the one she fondly likes instead of Kevin. It's no wonder why May is one of the people Double D is being chased by.
    12. No matter how much Ed, Eddy, and even Kevin act towards Double D at times, he is still willing to forgive them for their actions and is highly unlikely to hold a grudge on a feud.
    13. He also gained some development over the series, for example as of seasons 5 and 6 and Big Picture Show, he was able to talk to Nazz without acting nervous, panicking or sweating, and was also able to stand up to Eddy, Ed, and Eddy’s meaner older brother.
    14. Samuel Vincent does a great job voicing him.

    Eddy

    1. In the 2009 film Big Picture Show, the reason for his behavior is explained. It turns out that all his selfish and mean traits were all a mask, only acting like his brother just to earn his brother's respect and be friends with everyone; which had the opposite effect and nearly lost his dear best friends because of his behavior. His true self is a sad, misunderstood, and a self-hating kid who yearned for love and respect and was abused and mistreated his entire life.
    2. “FIFTY?!”
    3. Although he is very selfish, his ideas for scams can be very interesting.
    4. His imagination runs a bit wild as he somewhat lives in his own world, in which everyone loves and admires him. In his world, he's more intelligent than Edd/Double D and is the literal King of the Cul-De-Sac.
    5. His hate for birds can also be funny at times.
    6. His one-liners are also pretty funny, like "What? And ruin the plot?" and "I want free popcorn! I want free popcorn! What do I look like, some popcorn fairy?" from "Little Ed Blue."
    7. Just like Foghorn Leghorn, He hilariously broke the fourth wall more than any other character in the show.
    8. In the aforementioned 2009 movie, he became his lovable self again, especially when his behavior was explained, as mentioned in WHR#1.
    9. Tony Sampson does a awesome job voicing him.

    Dorky Qualities

    Overall

    1. Some of their scams range from harmless to causing damage to property of the other Cul-de-Sac kids, or even themselves on occasion.
    2. They are often incompetent Butt-Monkeys who suffer a lot, although very well written. This got worse in seasons 3-6, however, and it's most notable with Kevin, Sarah, and the Kanker sisters.
      • To be fair, though, it’s a lot more understandable why Kevin torments the Eds.

    Ed

    1. Ed is easy to manipulate, dupe, or deceive, mostly by Eddy and Sarah (although this isn't his fault).
    2. He's also a big Butt-Monkey, being abused by Sarah, the son his parents don't like, being abused by Eddy, getting into trouble for his stupidity, etc. It's quite funny, though.
    3. He was flanderized in the last two seasons by how much he went from being a bit of a simpleton to being a too-dumb-to-live type of idiot who's extremely emotional and has been overly simplified by his character with being excessively obsessed with gravy, at the very least, he was still likable to some extent in spite of this.
      • However, he can still be funny at times, and he went back to his intelligence from season 1 in the 2009 movie.
    4. Some of his gross jokes (before and after he was flanderized) can be a little disgusting or marginally shocking at times.
      • With that said, Like Pinky from Pinky and the Brain: He also has done some gross, repulsive stuff. Primarily because of pertaining to bits of gross-out humor with being disgusting.

    Edd (Double D)

    1. He was out-of-character in "Sorry, Wrong Ed" for not believing Eddy’s claim about the phone he stole that Rolf was trying to get rid of and said that the causes of the curses were mere coincidences with little-to-no evidence.
    2. While given some character development in seasons 5 and 6, he was flanderized into a constantly complaining, goody-two-shoes.
      • In fact, he impersonated the principal in "Smile for the Ed", but his actions get Eddy in trouble instead.
    3. His constant whining and bringing up his moral code could come off as annoying at times, depending on who you ask.
      • Granted, this isn’t a big issue, since said whining and moral code are part of his character.
    4. He is also a Butt-Monkey, probably the least worst of the three, but for some reason, even though he is polite and friendly, he ends up being hated by the children, even though he has nothing wrong with him other than participating in Eddy's scams.
      • That being said, as mentioned above, he’s still the most respected of the Eds (though that often isn’t saying much).

    Eddy

    1. He is often selfish, and mostly works for his own interests, sometimes even neglecting his friends.
    2. Because he is frequently overambitious, deceiving, loud, and power-hungry, his peers often socially reject him when his schemes can be excessively complicated. But at least he doesn't care about just himself unlike Bloo.
    3. Although Tony Sampson does a good job voicing him, his voice can be raspy and loud at times.
    4. Depending on how you view him, you can either find him hilarious or annoying.
    5. He is the biggest Butt-Monkey of the trio.
      • Granted, unlike with Ed and Double D, this is justified, as he is very greedy and unsympathetic.
    6. Unfortunately, his mean-spirited and naughty traits expanded in seasons 5 and 6 - making him harder to watch and enjoy compared to his redeemable personality in earlier seasons.
      • Unlike Ed and Double D, who remained good characters during their flanderizations, and Kevin, who was tolerable during his own flanderization, Eddy became a terrible character, so much so that he even rivaled Lee!

    Trivia

    • In the Ed, Edd n Eddy online game, Lunchroom Rumble, it reveals that Edd/Double D has pieces of hair under his hat when throwing it off the air. However, a.k.a. Cartoon (the company that produced Ed, Edd n Eddy for Cartoon Network) confirmed that this is not canon to the series.
    • Edd/Double D has a Norwegian pen pal known as Gerta as revealed in the episode "No Speak da Ed".

      • Ed's hair color is red/ginger, as seen in "Over Your Ed".
      • In "Smile for the Ed", Ed's middle name is revealed to be "Horace".

      • In "Boom Boom Out Goes the Ed", it is shown that his skull is a piece of buttered toast with two holes for eye sockets and a slice of butter for the nose. But in "Flea-Bitten Ed", when Edd x-rays him, he is shown to have a normal skull, but with a bone where his eyebrow should be. In "Cool Hand Ed", the inside of his head is shown with a small brain, a bandage, a spoon, and a crushed soda can inside his head.
      • Ed is afraid of soap as shown in "Once Upon an Ed" and "Run for Your Ed", however he had no problem with soap in "Over Your Ed".
      • Ed can perfectly play the comb and paper ("Boys Will Be Eds"), the flute ("Who's Minding the Ed?") and the saxophone ("Smile for the Ed"), yet was forced to play the violin by his parents ("Pain in the Ed").
      • Ed revealed in "Who, What, Where, Ed" that he used to have braces.
      • In "X Marks the Ed", it was revealed that Ed is afraid of wigs, yet in "A Boy and His Ed" he was wearing a clown wig (and even asked to keep it), and in "Quick Shot Ed" he was forced to wear a wig by the Kankers and showed no ill effects. In addition, in the comic "Sugar, Spice, Ed" he wore a woman's wig (as did Edd and Eddy).
        • He could mean that he's scared of wigs on someone other than himself.
      • Ed sleepwalks and sleep eats, as shown in "A Glass of Warm Ed" and "Run for Your Ed".
      • Ed has a pet turtle, as seen in "Ready, Set... Ed!", "From Here to Ed", and "Run Ed Run".
      • Ed got an A for history on his report card in "Mission Ed-Possible". However, in an earlier shot it showed that his report card said F on everything, making this an animation error.
      • Ed once had at least 5 seagulls trapped under his bed in "Ready, Set... Ed!" The ones mentioned were named "Penelope", "Edmund", and "Nestor".
      • In "Scrambled Ed", it was shown that Ed has a collection of sponges, and hides them in his wall. They reappear in Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show where he threw them into the wind while preparing to leave the Cul-de-Sac.
      • A cardboard cutout of Ed appeared in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy episode "Billy and Mandy Moon the Moon," which aired as the fifth and final chapter of the crossover event Cartoon Network Invaded. In the episode, the cardboard appeared as one of the replacements of the Earth's humans.
        • During the credits, he is also among the brainless characters from each show represented in the event that had their brains sucked.
          • Coincidentally, in the Ed, Edd n Eddy Invaded episode "The Eds Are Coming", Eddy warned Ed that this could happen when he attempted to save his sister when her attack backfired.
      • He is known to have a number of allergies:
        • Rabbits (as shown in "Flea-Bitten Ed")
        • Eels (as shown in "Dueling Eds")
        • Dandelions (as shown in "Honor Thy Ed")
        • Cats (as hinted to in "Mission Ed-Possible")
        • Butterscotch pudding (as discovered in "All Eds Are Off")
      • Ed was among the candidates for Cartoon Network’s 2004 presidential election along with his running mate Grim from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, the other candidates and running mates were Plank and Jonny, and Numbuh 1 from Codename: Kids Next Door and Eduardo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.
        • On November 5 of that year during Cartoon Network Friday Night, Ed was declared the winner of the election and therefore the new president. Upon his victory (appearing alongside Grim, Edd, and the Mayor of Townsville), Ed tried to talk to the public about a very important issue, until he was distracted when he thought someone in the audience had jawbreakers.
          • Danny Antonucci said that he based Eddy on his two sons.
          • His ID in "Your Ed Here" has revealed many things about him. His middle name is "Skipper", he is 12 years old (though this may have changed through the course of the series) and he lives at 220 Rethink Avenue (though in the earlier episode "To Sir with Ed" his house number was 200).
            • Eddy's age was first (implicitly) shown in "A Pinch to Grow an Ed", too.
          • He claims that he used to have a gerbil as mentioned in "Oath to an Ed".
          • In "A Pinch to Grow an Ed", Eddy's growth chart revealed that his height had plateaued by the age of 11.
          • Pancakes give Eddy gas, as he mumbled in the episode "It Came From Outer Ed".
          • His report card grades, as seen in the episode "Mission Ed-Possible", are the following:
            • Art: F
            • Science: F
            • English: F
            • History: F
            • Remedial Math: F
            • Wood Shop: F
            • Cooking: F
          • Eddy is a fan of Tom Jones and Barry White, evidenced by the records and posters in his room.
          • Eddy has compared his accomplishments to his brother's multiple times in the show, hinting at a sort of inferiority complex, and given Eddy's Brother's character (as revealed in the movie), Eddy's Brother could have gloated about his success to Eddy.
          • In the movie, Eddy has some considerable character development. Eddy felt remorse and tearfully apologized for and admitted his wrongdoing in all of his past actions, thus setting the stage for his immediate change in personality and his immediate acceptance into popularity.
          • Eddy's usual running style is leaning forward with arms stretched forward, as if he is trying to catch something right in front of him.
          • Eddy appeared in the Cartoon Cartoons (as well as Cartoon Cartoon Fridays and Cartoon Cartoon Weekend) logo for Ed, Edd n Eddy.
          • During the Nood era of Cartoon Network from July 14, 2008 to May 28, 2010, the "Next" Nood for Ed, Edd n Eddy (as well as Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show) takes on the form of Eddy.
          • In Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall, Eddy can't grant the player extra money (called Taros) when he/she defeats an enemy. This is odd because he is rather obsessed with money. This could be an intentional reference by the programmers to his obsession with money and the fact that he would be unlikely to give it away.
          • He has a yellow tongue in season 1 and some clipart, but in "Know it All Ed" (first episode of season 2), his tongue is green and it stays that way throughout the rest of the series.
            • Additionally in the opening theme song (even when season 1 was airing), his tongue is green.
          • A tutorial on how to draw Eddy is included in Ed, Edd n Eddy The Complete First Season.
