Ed, Edd n Eddy

Ed, Edd (Double D), and Eddy are the three titular main protagonists in Ed, Edd n Eddy. Ed is the strongest and the least intelligent member of the Eds, Edd, also known as Double D, is the smartest yet neurotic and moralistic member of the gang, and Eddy is the self-appointed ambitious leader of the Eds.

Why They Are The Eds

Overall

1. They have great chemistry with each other, as they all genuinely communicate like best friends.
2. All three of them provide the funniest one-liners. Ed's go from silly to Edd's sarcastic, sharp wit, while Eddy’s can be either depending on the moment.

Ed

1. Much like Goofy, he is a very good-natured, openhearted, wholesome, and happy-go-lucky simpleton who's always having a positive & carefree attitude towards almost everything and everyone he encounters or talks to.
2. He's the type of person who sees everybody he meets as a potential friend and someone who doesn't have a mean bone towards anybody or anything.
3. While he can be incompetent and clumsy, this is shown when he was rather innocent when playing around and gets others like Edd/Double D into some unintentional slapstick mayhem.
4. He is good-hearted, well-meaning, and extremely honest about his intentions in spite of the chaos he can cause unwittingly. Especially since he's a lovable, extremely wacky, good-hearted doofus who is simply a powerful specimen.
5. "Aww Kitty Cat Go Meow?"
6. Like Patrick; He may be dumb, but he presents his idiocy hilariously.
   • Also, in comparison to Patrick with his annoying moments or even in his flanderization; Ed is generally a sweetheart throughout the series and is also a lovably hilarious character with his perpetually goofy sense of humor and dim-witted nature as a goofball whether he's in a good or bad episode (or heck even in good or bad seasons of said show).
7. He is also quite accident-prone due to him being hilariously clumsy and prone to slapstick.
8. Since Ed is very absent-minded and naive, it makes him the perfect candidate for the manipulative Eddy to help him with Double D/Edd and Eddy's scams as Ed hardly ever questions them as many lackeys would do (while Ed thwarts their scams in an unwittingly hilarious manner like an unaware hero because of his countless quirks).
9. Despite being the dogsbody or the workhorse for almost all of Eddy's scams and a durable victim to the chaos and slapstick inflicted onto him along with Edd/Double D and Eddy, Ed never feels abused by Eddy and sees him as a friend. Sounds familiar?
   • With this in mind, He along with Edd/Double D and Eddy, are gods of durability.
10. Ed has some of the best one-liners of the show, like, "Canadians are weird!" and "How can my feet smell if they don't have a nose?"
11. Ed is a loyal fan of low-budget horror movies, comic books, and is an animal-lover as well, with chickens being his favorite animals, a running gag throughout the series of how his imagination does run wild quite entertainingly and endearingly in a pretty unpredictable manner along with his love for gravy.
12. Speaking of his imagination, he is shown to be quite talented and can be somewhat competent when trying to help his friends.
13. While Ed is physically shown to be quite skinny and not so muscular in the slightest, he is impressively and ludicrously strong with picking up objects with little effort or is even able to pick up objects in an impractical manner (e.g playground structure when angry in the "Little Ed Blue" episode and was able to stretch his tongue and chew it to make it fly from his mouth!) and can sometimes make anyone fly with a simple swing of his palm as well! Showing how nobody should try to mess with him whenever he's having a bad day or not.
14. Ed's head is shaped like a piece of buttered toast, which is pretty creative and hilarious, even for a cartoon character.
15. His appearance with his dopey smile and silly walk has a lot of charm by how it's presented.
16. Matt Hill does a hilarious job voicing him.

Edd (Double D)

1. He is physically the weakest of the trio, but the most intelligent member of the Eds.
   • Despite this fact, he's just as godlily durable as Ed and Eddy.
2. He is Ed and Eddy's closest friend throughout the entire series, even in their flanderization in the last two seasons.
3. Edd/Double D knows that two wrongs do not make a right as an example of correcting Ed's oddball logic and Eddy's mostly harebrained schemes.
4. He has a good design, on par with the other characters in the show.
5. He is an accurate depiction of a nerd (both appearance and personality-wise).
6. He's a good friend to anyone who is in need of his help.
7. He's pretty indulgent with Eddy in "Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show".
8. No matter how much Ed, Eddy, and even Kevin act towards Edd/Double D at times, he is still willing to forgive them for their actions and is likely not to hold a grudge on a feud.
9. Edd/Double D also gained some development over the series, for example as of seasons 5 and 6 and Big Picture Show, he was able to talk to Nazz without acting nervous, panicking or sweating and was also able to stand up to Eddy, Ed and his meaner brother.

Eddy

1. In the 2009 movie, Big Picture Show, the reason for his behavior is explained: It turns out that all his selfish and mean traits were all a mask, only acting like his brother just to earn his brother's respect and be friends with everyone; which had the opposite effect and nearly lost his dear best friends because of his behavior. His true self is a sad, misunderstood, and a self-hating kid who yearned for love and respect and was abused and mistreated his entire life.
2. “FIFTY?!”
3. Although he is very selfish, his ideas for scams can be very interesting.
4. His imagination runs a bit wild as he somewhat lives in his own world, in which everyone loves and admires him. In his world, he's more intelligent than Edd/Double D and is the literal King of the Cul-De-Sac.
5. His hate for birds can also be funny at times.
6. Whenever the Eds were bullied by the cul-de-sac kids, Eddy and Ed would comfort Edd/Double D and would help him to be stronger and tougher against those bullies (e.g. They did so to him just so he could try and wrestle the Kanker Sisters in "Tag Yer Ed").
   • Despite this fact, He along with Ed and Edd/Double D, has superhuman durability.
7. His lines are also pretty funny, like "What? And ruin the plot?" and "'I want free popcorn! I want free popcorn!' What do I look like, some popcorn fairy?" from "Little Ed Blue".
8. Just like Foghorn Leghorn: He hilariously broke the fourth wall more than any other character in the show.
9. In the aforementioned 2009 movie, he became his lovable self again, especially when his behavior was explained, as mentioned in WHR#1.
10. Tony Sampson does a awesome job voicing him.

Bad Qualities

Overall

1. Some of their schemes of scamming everyone would range from harmless, to causing damage to property or the people themselves.
2. They became punching bags in seasons 3-5, and not for good reason either.

Ed

1. Ed is easy to manipulate, dupe or deceive, mostly by Eddy and Sarah. (although this isn't his fault)
2. When he was flanderized in the last two seasons by how much he went from being a bit of a simpleton to being a too-dumb-to-live type of idiot who's extremely emotional and has been overly simplified by his character with being excessively obsessed with gravy, at the very least, he was still likable to some extent in spite of this
   • however he can still be funny at times
   • and thankfully, he went back to his intelligence from Season 1 in the 2009 movie.
3. Some of his gross jokes (before and after he was flanderized) can be a little disgusting or marginally shocking at times.
   • With that said, Like Pinky from Pinky and the Brain: He also has done some gross, repulsive stuff. Primarily because of pertaining to bits of gross-out humor with being disgusting.

Edd (Double D)

1. He was out-of-character in "Sorry, Wrong Ed" for not believing Eddy’s claim about the phone he stole that Rolf was trying to get rid of and said that the causes of the curses were mere coincidences with little-to-no evidence.
2. While given some character development in seasons 5 and 6, he was of course; flanderized into a constantly complaining, goody-two-shoes.
   • In fact, he impersonated the principal in "Smile for the Ed", but his actions get Eddy in trouble instead.
3. His constant whining and bringing up his moral code could come off as annoying at times, depending on who you ask.

Eddy

1. He is often selfish, and mostly works for his own interests, sometimes even neglecting his friends. Because he is frequently overambitious, deceiving, loud, and power-hungry, his peers often socially reject him when his schemes can be excessively complicated. But at least he doesn't care about just himself unlike Bloo.
2. Although Tony Sampson does a good job voicing him, his voice can be raspy and loud at times.
3. Depending on how you view him, you can either find him hilarious or annoying.
4. Unfortunately, his mean-spirited and naughty traits expanded in seasons 5 & 6 - making him harder to watch and enjoy compared to his redeemable personality in earlier seasons.

Trivia

• In the Ed, Edd n Eddy online game, Lunchroom Rumble, it reveals that Edd/Double D has pieces of hair under his hat when throwing it off the air. However, a.k.a. Cartoon (the company that produced Ed, Edd n Eddy for Cartoon Network) confirmed that this is not canon to the series.
• Edd/Double D has a Norwegian pen pal known as Gerta as revealed in the episode, "No Speak da Ed".
• Edd/Double D was born on October 6, 1995, making him a Libra.
• In a deleted secne of the episode, "Take This Ed and Shove It", it reveals that his elderly self was married to an elderly obese version of Marie Kanker.
• Edd/Double D appeared as a non playable NPC in the now defunct Cartoon Network online game, FusionFall, along with Ed, Eddy, and the Kanker Sisters. There was also a nano of Double D himself.
• Edd/Double D was featured on the Cartoon Network 20th anniversary poster from 2012, along with Eddy, Ed, Johnny, Plank, and the Kanker Sisters.
• Edd/Double D made a cameo apperance in the OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes episode, "Crossover Nexus".
• Edd/Double D's hat made an appearance as wardrobe in the mobile game, KleptoCats: Cartoon Network.
