E-123 Omega (or just Omega) is a recurring character in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. He is the latest and greatest robot of Dr. Eggman's E-Series, bent on avenging himself on his creator after being tasked with guarding an unconscious Shadow the Hedgehog, causing him to resent Eggman for wasting his talent.

    Why He's Omega Indeed

    1. His character design, like most Sonic characters, is really cool.
    2. Omega has a simple, yet sympathetic backstory, as mentioned above.
    3. He has a wholesome friendship and a great chemistry with Shadow and Rouge.
    4. Similar to other robotic characters in the series, he is perfectly capable of understanding emotions.
      • Not only that, but he's also quite expressive for a robot with barely any facial features.
    5. He has a more gentle and comforting side, as seen when he tries to calm down crying children (such as Cream).
    6. He always gives it his all to prove himself as the greatest robot.
    7. When in a good mood, he's pretty loyal and dependable.
    8. His quotes are some of the most hysterically blunt and raw lines ever spoken by a Sonic character (especially in the Archie and IDW comics), with him constantly talking about destroying, killing, exterminating and eliminating. They contrast very nicely with his robotic behavior and speech as well.
    9. True to his self-proclaimed title as "The ultimate E-Series robot", he's armed to his non-existent teeth, being equipped with machine guns, homing lasers, flamethrowers, rotary cannons, energy cannons, you name it.
    10. He can be wise and insightful when needed. In Sonic 06, he explains to Shadow and Rouge why humanity unfairly hunted and sealed the former, saying that sooner or later, something or someone who's considered to have lots of power will be seen as a threat.
    11. His voice actors do great at making him sound like the badass destructive bot that he is, such as Jon St. John and Jeff Kramer.

    Bad Qualities

    1. Sometimes, he doesn't display much character aside from being a violent Eggman robot who went rogue.
    2. His obsession with destruction can get the better of him.
    3. Not much unlike Sonic, he has a bad habit of getting head-first into trouble without thinking.
    4. He is very much underutilized in many of the games with Shadow and Rouge in it when he could have been easily included without being replaced by other characters.
    5. While he was a good character in Sonic 06, the same can't really be said about his voice. It doesn't sound annoying or anything like that, it's just unfitting for the character.
      1. His Gameplay as a Playable Character is No Better. Thankfully it Improves in the Fan Made Remaster "Sonic P06"

    Trivia

    • Omega is intolerant with excessive humidity.
    • He is the only non-Sonic copy robot who can perform the Spin Attack (aside from the Roller badniks).
    • On occasion, Omega can spin his torso around. It's often implied that this is some sort of glitch in his programming, as he states that his maintenance is overdue during one of his idle animations in Sonic Heroes.
    • In Sonic 06, his hovering ability can be abused by tapping the jump button repeatedly.
    • Omega seems to speak differently in the games:
      • In Sonic Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog, he could speak in complete English.
      • In Sonic 06, he could speak English, but mostly said computer commands.
      • In Sonic Colors for Nintendo DS, all he said was computer language or incomplete English.
      • And in Team Sonic Racing, he uses a combination of computer language and English (example: "Interrogative: Are you somnolent?", "Situation assessment: Unacceptable!") and is not above taunting the other racers (example: "Statement: Tails, you bite.", "Reclassifying Silver as a doofus.").
