"So you thought you could drag me to the bottom of the lake just to eat me later? Well, guess what punk? I'm a fish, WITH LEGS."

    Darwin

Darwin Raglan Caspian Ahab Poseidon Nicodemius Watterson III is the deuteragonist in The Amazing World of Gumball. He used to be Gumball's pet goldfish, but, one day, he grew legs and generally adapted to life outside of water, so he was adopted by the Watterson family.

Why He is a fish with legs

    1. Like his adopted older brother, Darwin is a very happy and positive person.
    2. He always tries to see the best in most of the scenarios he is in, and in general, always tries to have a smile on his face.
    3. Not only does he desire to be happy, but he also desires to see others happy.
      • His selfless acts of happiness can be seen in episodes such as "The Fan," "The Advice," (depending on your view) and "The Stories."
    4. He has a strong sense of honesty, always willing to tell the truth no matter how much trouble it may cause.
    5. While not always the best source of help, Darwin is always willing to help his friends in different situations, putting the others safety in the first place before his.
    6. He is a great source of comedy, often bouncing off other characters' designs and different personalities.
    7. Unlike his older brother Gumball, he is often grateful about his life.
    8. In Season 1, He was pretty stupid, but luckily, he's very likeable when he acts all tomfoolery and joyful, and often has some ideas to help out Gumball in "The Ghost", "The Kiss", "The Date", "The Curse", and "The Fight".
    9. His design is very cute, arguably the cutest character in the show.
    10. The voice actors seen above did a nice job voicing Darwin.
    11. While he's supportive, helpful and nice, he can have his limits and put his foot down when things get too far. This showed more in later seasons.

Bad Qualities that make him cry

    1. He was also short-tempered in the second, often resorting to senseless violence when given a reason to do so, including his own best friend, Gumball himself.
    2. He was extremely and very hostile towards Gumball in "The Pressure" after Darwin himself broke their plan on breaking up with Masami (when she was pretending that Darwin was her boyfriend). This leads to Gumball calling Darwin out for being such a really bad friend to him for flipping out and taking his hostile behavior out on him.
    3. Even though he cares for Gumball deep down inside, Darwin himself can sometimes enter the Only Sane Man territory and throws him right under the bus to avoid any punishments in just a matter of seconds. The biggest example of him throwing Gumball on the bus to suffer is possibly The Bet and the infamous The Hero.
    4. He can also be unlikable or stupid in a few episodes such as: The Words, The Triangle, The Bros (the worst offender), The Potion, The Revolt, The BFFS, The Sidekick, The Signal (depending on your view), The Safety and The Girlfriend.
      • His jealousy towards Penny is annoyingly mean-spirited and it makes him come off as possessive towards his brother which is just creepy. In 'The Bros", he tries this best to separate Gumball and Penny just so he could have his brother all to himself. He even bullies Penny throughout that episode which is very annoying. Even worse, he doesn't get his comeuppance or learn from his big mistake.
        • His jealous facial expressions in the said episode are also pretty punchable.
