Henry Cogsworth (better simply known as Cogsworth) is one of the supporting characters of the Beauty and the Beast franchise. He is the Beast's fussy, but loyal and jolly majordomo who became a mantel clock during the Enchantress' curse.

Why He Makes a Good Advisor

    1. His design as a mantel clock is perfectly done and iconic, not counting the live action remake.
    2. He is a very loyal majordomo to Prince Adam.
    3. Despite being at odds, he is best friends with Lumiere.
    4. David Ogden Stiers, Ian McKellen, and Bob Joles all did amazing as this talking clock by making him a Jerk with a Heart of Gold we know and love.
    5. He has a wonderful singing voice, most notably in "Human Again".
    6. He is very loyal to everyone, especially Belle.
    7. His best action is to help defend the castle from Gaston and his followers.
      • He even rescued Lumiere from being melted alive by Lefou.
    8. Despite the auburn wig, his human form is well designed and captured after his form as a clock.
      • There is a concept art that shows him in a powdered wig. If the animator included the powdered wig, it could have looked more dignified on him.
    9. He is known for his good jokes, such as the Baroque joke.
    10. He was featured in House of Mouse.
    11. Like Lumiere, he managed to fully recover from flanderization as he massively redeems himself in the live action remake, unlike Belle and the Beast.

    Intentional Pompous Qualities

    1. Despite freedom standards, his auburn wig doesn't make any sense, if Cogsworth wanted to retire and is the royal advisor of the castle. Thankfully, it was fixed in Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas where it was changed to brown, and in the 2017 remake where it was changed to white.
    2. He was temporarily flanderized in Belle’s Magical World where he acted like an arrogant and grumpy manchild in Mrs. Potts Party. Not counting that segment, he still kept his likability and charm for the most part before redeeming himself in the live action remake.
    3. He can be quite of a jerk in several moments, such as his childish bickering and quarrels with Lumiere.
    4. He is often shown to be a Butt-Monkey such as the “Be Our Guest” sequence.
