Chrom is one of the main characters of Fire Emblem Awakening. He is the prince and eventual Exalt of the Halidom of Ylisse. Chrom is the prince, and eventual Exalt, of the Halidom of Ylisse. He is a direct descendant of the First Exalt, and a distant descendant of the Hero-King, Marth. He is also the captain of Ylisse's elite force, the Shepherds, and wields the legendary blade Falchion. He is the brother of Lissa and Emmeryn, the father of Lucina, the uncle of Owain, and can potentially be the father of Kjelle, Inigo, Brady, Cynthia, or Morgan. He leads his Shepherds force to protect the peace when the neighboring nation of Plegia begins acting suspiciously.

    Why He Rocks

    1. As a prince, Chrom is a man who means well and has the heart in the right place. He believes that as a leader, he needs to show strength in the face of fatigue and the burden of great work in order to be an example and inspiration to others.
    2. He's seriously committed to his goals as he unflinchingly charges forwards to achieve his beliefs.
    3. When he's with other people, his faith is high mainly towards his friends and allies as they are with him during the game as it makes sense. His faith caused him to trust Lucina before her revelation and Robin despite other people's warnings.
      • Speaking of Robin, Chrom has a special bond with Robin (especially the female robin if he is married to her). He stills believes in Robin after learning about their true heritage.
    4. Chrom is a brother so that makes him overprotective to his sisters (especially Emmeryn). To be fair, however, he never argues with his older sister's final decisions.
    5. Speaking of Emmeryn, there is one thing that we would like to mention. When he failed to protect her, Chrom felt rage and sadness taking over him as you feel sympathetic towards Chrom's predicament. However, his comrades helped him overcome it and made Chrom a fair ruler. Seriously, who knew something like this can be such impactful to lifestyle.
      • Adding on to that, Chrom worried about becoming king as he assumes that he would make the same mistakes as his bloodthirsty father and wouldn't live up to Emmeryn's ideas. As he became the Exalt, Chrom assumes a more serious posture and aspires to follow the ideas of Emmeryn albeit not taking it as far as she does.
      • He does respect Emmeryn's pacifistic ways, but he believes that in the end force will be necessary to counteract those who would endanger a peaceful world and is willing to fight and kill to defend the peace.
    6. Having royal blood, he doesn't consider himself to be superior to anyone. He would rather lead his Shepherds into battle than perform formal duties (as according to him they are stifling at times). Later on, he becomes aware that such a luxurious life should not be taken for granted.
    7. Chrom follows the Path of Kings. the path states "A person who lives with and for the people". This overall shows that Chrom's strength comes from his comrades.
    8. Will help anyone in need without a moment's hesitation. No explanation needed as it fits well with his role as the main character.
      • For the extension, he cares greatly for those around him and in his service thus paying close attention to them and their needs. No matter the circumstance or risk, he will attempt to aid anyone in need he encounters, fully aware of and willing to risk any potential consequences if it means. In fact, he goes beyond just helping them as he is always seeking to forge new bonds of friendship and it improves himself, his army, and the people of the world. This is because he gives credence to unity.
    9. In the end, Chrom was officially welcomed as Ylisse's new exalt. His unflinching perseverance through countless hardships made him a beacon of hope for his people.
    10. Chrom is able to wield the Falchion which is a character-exclusive weapon to him. It is a divine sword that appears in the Archanea saga. In chapter 24, he wields the Exalted Falchion which is more powerful as the name suggests.
    11. While he can be awkward at times, it pretty much gives him an entertaining side him. Example: "Damn it! Broke another training dummy" or "I suppose Falchion CAN be used to slice cake"
    12. The scene where he reunites with his daughter Lucina

    Bad Qualities

    1. His extreme idealism and tendency to trust others blindly can also bring problems to him.
    2. Lacks strategic and negotiation skills which makes him rely on Robin a lot.
    3. Can be quite awkward at times as he is the one who breaks the most things during practice.
      • His awkwardness also applies to his relationship with women as he is dense or nervous in his romantic interactions.
    4. He never helps Plegia rebuild after the war with Gangrel and this allows Validar to take over the country.
    5. Chrom's ancestor, the First Exalt, is a pointless Marth copy that didn't need to exist. Infact Chrom's relationship to Marth is only being confirmed via a line Tiki can have with Male Robin in a purely optional support.

    • Gave us the memes "I suppose I'll get my chance... Another day", "getting Chrom'd on", and puns of his name.
    • Chrom's name could derive from the English suffix, "chrome" used to specify colors and pigments. It can also be a corruption of the metal "chromium".
      • Crom Cruach and Crom Dubh are also Celtic gods of fertility. Crom Dubh is regarded as a legendary Irish king idol. Crom in old English means "bent, crooked, stooped".
    • Chrom was voted the most popular male character in the Fire Emblem Awakening Character Popularity Poll in Japan.
    • Chrom appears in some support conversations from other characters. He appears in Ricken and Nowi's C support and Lucina's C & A sibling supports. He shares this trait with Robin, who appears in Tharja and Vaike's C support and Tharja and Frederick's C support.
    • According to the Official Fire Emblem Awakening Comic from Nintendo Dream, Chrom is six years younger than Emmeryn, making him roughly nineteen years old at the start of Fire Emblem Awakening.
    • Chrom is the only unit in Awakening with a different portrait for each direction. This is likely due to the Brand of the Exalt on his right shoulder. The only other character in the series to have this trait is Nergal.
    • The Fire Emblem disappears from Chrom's Great Lord battle model from Chapter 21 to Chapter 23 because Validar steals it. The Fire Emblem will also not be present on Chrom's Great Lord model if he promotes before Chapter 7.
    • At the end of Robin and Lucina's reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Chrom remarks that he will "get [his] chance another day". This line was meant to be a joke as he does appear in-game as an assist in Robin's Final Smash.
      • This line would ironically become true in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where Chrom became a full fledged playable character.
      • Upon release, Chrom retained the original Fire Emblem victory theme based on Brawl, which is shared by Marth, Roy, and Ike. However, in version 3.0.0, he received the new Awakening-based victory theme that was given to Lucina and Robin, making Chrom the only character to change victory themes within a title.
      • In fact, Chrom was planned to be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U, but was replaced with Robin instead due to Chrom's moveset. However, he did became an echo fighter of Roy in Ultimate.
    • In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, during Palutena's Guidance for Robin, Palutena states that Chrom does not have Aether. This is not completely true since Chrom can learn Aether as a level 5 Great Lord in Awakening. However, Chrom's attack animation is not the same way that Ike does in Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.
      • Chrom's up special Soaring Slash uses the same attack animation as Ike's Aether. He also uses his version of Aether as his Final Smash.
    • He and the Persona 5 character Yusuke Kitagawa share similarities with each other.
      • Same English and Japanese voice actor
      • Both of them have blue hair.
      • Yusuke is of the Emperor Arcana while Chrom will become king of Ylisse
