William Afton, also known as Springtrap, is the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment, as well as the main antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's series. He is the founder of Afton Robotics and a serial killer who was directly and indirectly responsible for all of the incidents, murders, and tragedies throughout the series. His role in the franchise's story is pivotal.
Springtrap is William's first incarnation, appearing as a reanimated corpse sealed in a heavily damaged Spring Bonnie animatronic/springlock suit. This version first appeared in Five Nights at Freddy's 3. William returned once again in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator with a new design, dubbed Scraptrap. While he does retain some key physical details from Springtrap's design, there are some major differences.
Why He Always Comes Back
- He's a great villain for a franchise being an evil, selfish and sadistic murderer.
- His design as Springtrap is really awesome and scary at the same time. He looks more distinct than any other character in the FNAF series.
- His famous line, "I Always Come Back", is very iconic.
- PJ Heywood does a great job voicing him in Sister Location, Pizzeria Simulator and Special Delivery.
- Fans made their own interpretation of him, like Squimpus McGrimpus portrayal in FNAF VHS series and j-gems portrayal of him in The Interview series.
- Squimpus McGrimpus makes Afton more terrifying than in the actual games by making him abusive, psychopathic, egotistical, sadistic and utterly ruthless. He even outright states that he has no remorse for his victims.
- His death when he goes inside the springlock suit in the minigame in FNAF 3 is very shocking but weirdly cool at the same time.
- He is the main reason why this whole franchise is still going on.
- He as Springtrap is considered to be a fan favorite character in the community.
The Bad Qualities
- His design as Scraptrap is very divisive amongst the fanbase.
- Same thing could be said with his Springtrap design in FNAF: VR Help Wanted as there is not any textures or details on him. (Though this design is more hated than Scraptrap)
- Since he is a psychopathic murder, many people would consider him not a good character.
- His jumpscares as Springtrap in FNAF 3 aren't scary.
- He can be seen as a generic doomsday villain.
