Asta is the main protagonist of Yuki Tabata's manga and the anime adaptation, Black Clover. He starts off as a young boy who lives in Hage Village, which is in the Forsaken Realm of the Clover Kingdom. In a world where magic is everything, Asta is the only person in the kingdom who was born without any magical powers. He dreams of becoming the Wizard King despite his inability to use magic. It changed one day that he receives a Five Leaf Grimoire, which grants him the ability to use Anti-Magic, which nullifies all forms of magic. His determined spirit, kindness and diligence gets him to joined the Black Bulls, led by Yami Sukehiro.

Why Not Being Special Is What Makes Him Special

1. He is considered as one of the best underdogs in anime.
2. He is altruistic, as his goal of becoming the Wizard King stem from him wanting his loved ones to be happy in a world where people treats each other equally.
3. He has an optimistic outlook on life, which influences the people around him to see things in a more positive perspective.
   • He even influenced one of his teammates, Noelle Silva, who was born from a highly arrogant noble family that is very responsible for abuse and blatant disregard on her (mostly from Solid and Nebra) since childhood. Thus, this changed Noelle's perspective on people who are far from royal (in other words, peasants), which greatly differs from her siblings' perspectives.
4. He is humble and doesn't boast about his achievements, no matter how great they are.
5. His compassion, persistence and diligence are what inspires the people around him to become more heroic like him.
6. He gains the affections of the many women he meets on his journey, such as Noelle Silva, Mimosa Vermillion, and Rebecca Scarlett.
7. Like many Shonen protagonists, he makes friends out of most of his enemies, such as Mars and Ladros, as well as the devil in his grimoire, Liebe.
8. Despite the fact that he and his rival and adoptive brother, Yuno have clashing personalities, he still respects him and sees him as his best friend.
9. He isn't afraid of rebelling against corrupt authority figures like Damnatio Kira in order to the right thing.
10. His confident and determined attitude makes him to be willing overcome obstacles in his life.
11. Dallas Reid did an amazing job voicing him.
12. Character Development:
    • After being given advice by Fuegoleon Vermillion, Asta becomes more tranquilitive and less impulsive, both in battle and in his personal life.
    • He becomes more empathetic and mature after realizing the elves were manipulated by a devil into fighting against the Clover Kingdom.

Bad Qualities

1. He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. While he is far from stupid, his upbringing in a rural town with a highly limited access to education causes Asta to be ignorant of things that others consider common knowledge.
   • In fact, he is considered the least intelligent of the Black Bulls.
2. He can be a boisterous loudmouth, whether he is feeling cheerful or angry in battle.
3. Despite that Noelle is Asta's closest teammate, he can be dense and oblivious with romantic feelings from her, much to her frustration and embarrassment.
4. The friendly rivalry between him and Leopold Vermillion isn't as strong as the one between him and Yuno. What doesn't help is that Leopold is meant to declare him as his rival!
