Applejack is a female Earth pony and one of the main characters of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. She lives and works at Sweet Apple Acres with her grandmother Granny Smith, her older brother Big McIntosh, her younger sister Apple Bloom, and her dog Winona. She represents the element of honesty. She is voiced by Ashleigh Ball with her best friend Rainbow Dash.

Why She's A Ride 'Em Cowgirl

    1. She is the Element of Honesty, and portrays it very well, using her element to solve certain situations, especially conflicts between her friends.
    2. She is brave, reliable, strong, mature and hard-working, although headstrong about doing things on her own.
    3. She truly learns her lesson and carries her morals through every episode.
    4. She is determined to make the ponies around her happy and carry good memories.
    5. She is not afraid to get dirty and messy.
    6. She is a good-natured pony and quite hard to offend.
    7. Applejack is often shown to be one of the more empathetic members of the main cast, putting the needs and feelings of others before her own.
    8. Applejack possesses incredible physical strength due to, as she explains in "Fall Weather Friends", years of apple bucking, the practice of harvesting apple trees by kicking them to knock the apples down. Another good example is in "Going to Seed", where she bucks three apples in merely one spinning motion!
    9. Applejack possesses extraordinary athletic abilities. She and Rainbow Dash compete in the Iron Pony competition in "Fall Weather Friends", where their athletic feats draw a sizable crowd.
    10. She is also impeccable at cooking.
    11. In "Dragonshy", despite the other ponies' impatience (excluding Pinkie Pie) with Fluttershy, Applejack is willing to take the long way around the mountain with her in order to help her up.
    12. In "Fame and Misfortune", she takes care of random ponies who have decided to live on the farmstead wanting to be part of the Apple family, despite the work and stress it causes for the main members.
    13. She has excellent herding abilities. For example, she, along with her dog, Winona, stop a cow stampede in "Applebuck Season". Another good example is in "Too Many Pinkie Pies", where she and her family herd the Pinkie Pies together by Twilight's instructions.
    14. She's incredibly skilled at playing musical instruments.
    15. Just like Rainbow Dash, Ashleigh Ball did an amazing job voicing her thanks to her Southern American accent.

Bad Qualities that Should Cry on the Inside

    1. She is often very stubborn and once refused Twilight's help time and time again.
    2. She holds quite a distasteful dislike to anything to do with fashion.
    3. Sometimes, she can be too brutally honest, like in "Rarity Takes Manehatten" when she says Rarity was "pretty rotten", acting proud of what she said after.
    4. On the contrary, although being the Element of Honesty, she is shown to lie a couple times, like in "The Last Roundup" when she avoids telling the truth about why she didn't come back to Ponyville.
    5. On occasion, she gets carried away with her empathy, especially with her little sister, Apple Bloom. In "Bridle Gossip", she got overprotective of the latter when Zecora comes into Ponyville. This nature of hers returns in "Somepony to Watch Over Me".

    Trivia

    • Applejack is one of the only two members of the main cast who were part of the original My Little Pony cast in the 1980s animated series, the other member being Spike. Lauren Faust, the show's developer, was inspired to create Applejack by her childhood toy G1 pony Applejack.
    • Faust intended to use more characters from the first My Little Pony series, but Hasbro did not maintain the trademarks to nearly all of the original character names and most names had to be replaced.
    • She possesses a huge appetite for in "A Bird in the Hoof" and "Apple Family Reunion". Her grandmother, Granny Smith, recalls the time when Apple Split found Applejack as a foal eating all the apple fritters, showing that she "had the appetite of a full-grown stallion".
    • In "The Mysterious Mare Do Well", she refers to her left and right hind hooves as "Bucky McGillycuddy" and "Kicks McGee" respectively.
