Monika (モニカ) is the main antagonist of the 2017 visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club! and the former president of the Literature Club.

    Why She Just Rocks

    1. Unlike Josef Heiter and Peter Mountain, Monika isn't made for pure shock exploitation in any way.
    2. Monika's ability to break the fourth wall and dig into the game's code to subliminally manipulate the other club members' minds to the most brutal self-harm brings villainy to an entirely new level.
    3. She is one of the most unique and creative video game villains to date.
    4. She is a tragic villain with an understandable motive. She was once happy in her life until she realized that she is just a video game character. Because of this, it went to the point that it was too much for her to handle and the main reason why she did those horrible acts to the characters and everyone in the game.
    5. Despite Yuri being the smartest in the club, it is proven that Monika is able to outwit her, as she is able to, as mentioned in WSR #2, break the fourth wall, which is something Yuri can't do.
    6. Her design is adorable and pretty.
    7. She sings a song in the credits called "Your Reality" and it is great to listen to.
    8. "Oh jeez...I didn't break anything, did I?"
    9. Her unique outfit that differentiates from the rest of the Literature Club's outfits.
    10. In regard to WSR #1, she is good at hiding her evil side, one example being in Act 2 when she kept a protein bar in a bag and gave it to Natsuki after a meltdown, which is also convenient, because the former knew that the latter suffers from malnutrition due to her abusive father not giving her any lunch money before going to school.
    11. The jumpscare that she gives off is interesting. If the player records or streams the game with a specific app, the screen will slowly zoom in on Monika's face, back out for 2½ sentences, then immediately performs her jumpscare before finishing her third sentence and before the player expects it.
    12. Her crush on the player rather than the protagonist due to the former being a real living and breathing being gives a unique twist to the game and brings metafiction to an entirely new level.
    13. After being deleted in Act 3, she gave the player several minutes of an apology for the game's destruction from the end of Act 1 to the end of Act 2 and restored the rest of the Literature Club, thus starting Act 4.
    14. She accepted her punishment in Act 4 after being deleted in Act 3, as she refused to reenter the game and proceeded to delete her own file no matter how many times the player restores it.
    15. In the bad ending, she protected the player to avoid a repeat of the game's past events, proving that she refuses to let anyone go down the path that she did.
    16. That being said, she is one of two characters in the game who are aware that they are just characters inside a game and will never make it to the real world no matter how many attempts and no matter what methods are used.

    The Only Bad Quality

    1. Some of her acts can be incredibly disturbing and too much for even her own game (although this is intentional, considering the warning upon first opening the game).
