Edward Elric (Japanese: エドワード・エルリック, Hepburn: Edowādo Erurikku) is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga series created by Hiromu Arakawa. Edward, titled "Fullmetal Alchemist" (鋼の錬金術師, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, lit. "Alchemist of Steel"), is the youngest State Alchemist in the history of the fictional country of Amestris. His left leg was divinely severed in a failed attempt to resurrect his dead mother, and then his right arm was taken in exchange for his brother's soul. His missing limbs have been replaced with sophisticated prosthetics called automail (機械鎧オートメイル, ōtomeiru). He and his younger brother, Alphonse, who lost his entire body and is spiritually bound to a suit of armor, scour the world in search of the Philosopher's Stone in the hopes of restoring their bodies.
Why He Rocks
His well-done backstory, due to his mother Trisha Elric dying, him and his brother Alphonse tries to bring there mother back with a human transmutation but it failed which is causes him losing his arm and leg and Alphonse losing his body which is causing him to possessing the armor.
Extreme character development started out as a loudmouth who easily gets angered when people called him short, to being a person who saved everyone from his father.
Both Vic Mignogna and Romi Park did a good job voicing him in both english and japanese.
Unlike many anime characters who want to be powerful Edward doesn't want to be a powerful alchemist.
He was willing to offer his life in exchange for his brother, Alphonse, whose body was obliterated in their failed attempt to use alchemy to bring back their mother.
Bad Qualities
He gets easily angered especially if someone calls him short.
He was a bit selfish at the beginning of the series.
